I am having this problem as well..started this morning. I suspect it's a Yahoo issue. I was able to sign in to my Yahoo email account through my desktop, but could not access the account through the mobile site or through the mail app on the iPhone. I chatted with a Yahoo support representative for about an hour and he was able to restore access to my mail through the mobile website, but the problem (incorrect username/password) continues on the mail app. He was trying to suggest the mail app on my phone had been corrupted, but my two other email accounts on the app are working perfectly. This is really irritating, and they made no mention that others are experiencing the same problem. He told me there was nothing else he could do to help me. I hope this is an issue they resolve quickly. Please report if you get a resolution to the problem.

The same thing is happening with me except with Hotmail, I was on live but a hacker got into my account so I changed my Apple ID password and Email settings. I tried getting my old account back using my iPad and had gotten my hotmail account I was using blocked because I got the live recovery form wrong (due to how old my msn live account is) so now when I try add a new hotmail account to my iPad it says (Unable to verify account information) and when I continue and try save the account anyway it says (the account may not be able to send and receive emails. Do you want to continue anyway?) so I save and go back into account information to see what's wrong it says (enter the password for hotmail account "hotmail") thats not all on top of that when I go into the email app it says (connection to server is failed) everything works fine on my laptop for my newest email account (third one I use for school and business) but my iPad email settings/ system won't work it says under incoming server it says (the pop.3@live.com server is failed) or something simular to that what am I suppose to do? I need help :(

I've been having on and off issues with gmail via the iphone ios6. Will this ever end???? I really don't understand how this has been going on literally for over a year and it isn't ironed out. I've switched to using a yahoo app for my yahoo mail and a gmail app for my gmail because the regular app is so unreliable. This is the one thing that will make me go to android next time. I'm really tired of this.

If it's helpful to know, I originally had problems when everyone else did months ago with this port timeout, and then Yahoo fixed whatever the problem was, and it's been working fine for my wife and I since then. We both had iphone 4 phones. On the first day that ios6 was available, I updated both of our phones and they both continued working fine with Yahoo mail (we have a mail plus paid account). Recently I updated my phone and my wife's phone to iphone 4S phones (again running ios6) and they are continuing to work fine with our Yahoo mail. We are in the San Diego area. Don't know if that's helpful, but thought I'd let you know that it's not out across the board (just got a new email seconds ago 9/26/12 8:04 PM, and successfully sent one as well).

Good luck

no, you do not have to pay, just use your "yahoo" setup in mail accounts like normal, BUT LEAVE YOUR NAME BLANK. I also turned off everything but mail and calendar and it finally worked.

You are right in one since, if you want to use POP, then you need to pay, but not if you just use apples setting right in the mail app\settings when you setup an email account. Leave your name blank, put your email address and password only

I "think" it is the word "apple" in the string (apple.imap.mail,yahoo.com).

I deleted the Yahoo mail account and then reinstalled it but instead of clicking on "Yahoo", I clicked on "other" at the bottom of the list.

Then I entered all of the info on the account, pressed "save" , then I got a second window, clicked on the IMAP tab and I entered all of the required info INCLUDING the bottom two entries marked "optional" BUT BE SURE to leave off the word "apple" and just enter the rest of it.

Outgoing mail should be "smtp.mail.yahoo.com"

incoming mail should be "imap.mail.yahoo.com"

My accounts are now working perfectly.

ALL of my problems started with the last sync on iTunes.

I had this issue today, thought I knew what I was doing, but it appears my smugness was premature. Yahoo is changing. I got an error message this morning on iPad and iPhone 5 saying connection not available. Didn't help that I was also trying to get a new password, which I thought I'd forgotten.

Go to Yahoo.com on your laptop, go through the 'forgotten my password' change password process

On your iPhone and iPad, go to Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Tap on your Yahoo account

Tap delete account - don't worry, nothing is lost

Go back to your iPhone and iPad, Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars

Tap Add Account - then select Btinternet,

Type in name, email and your new password

Good to go

3 hours of my life this morning that I won't get back, but hey ho

I found that the problem lies in "apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com". First off, the Incoming Mail Server for Yahoo! is only supposed to be imap.mail.yahoo.com, meaning it's not supposed to have the apple prefix at the beginning. So, here are the steps in order to fix the problem:

1. Go to the Settings app.

2. Go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

3. Click on Add Account.

4. Do not click on Yahoo!, but instead, click on Other.

5. Click on Add Mail Account.

6. Fill out the necessary details, then click on Next.

7. Under INCOMING MAIL SERVER, type in imap.mail.yahoo.com in the field labeled Host Name.

8. Use your email address in the field labeled User Name.

9. IN CASE YOUR PASSWORD ISN'T ALREADY ENTERED, use your email password.

10. Under OUTGOING MAIL SERVER, type in smtp.mail.yahoo.com in the field labeled Host Name. You no longer have to enter a User Name and Password under the outgoing mail server, unless you opt to.

I hope this helps!
