Retina Vs. Non Can you notice?

I've finally decided to buy a new MacBook Pro (meaning my wife said I could), so we headed to the Apple store.

Problem was, when we got there we couldn't see the difference. Let me correct myself in saying, we couldn't see the $1000 difference.

Sure the icons looked better, the sales rep pointed out it was less reflective. But we walked out undecided.

For the basic coding, college papers, and script writing that I do even the sales person said it might not be worth it.

So I'm planning on doing an ssd upgrade and ram upgrade on the nonretina MBP.

Anyways, just wondered if anyone else was on the fence and seeing them in person didn't make it "clearer".

Also, if it was an AMAZING DIFFERENCE for you. What did you look at or what do you do on it? I told myself I'd go back and look again, just to be sure.

Thanks for any tips or comments.

I have a Crucial m4 512GB SSD and like it very much. There are some faster SSDs on the market but I don't know that it's worth the extra cash to buy something a tad faster that you wouldn't notice in real-world use. I bought mine from Amazon when it was $600 - now it's down close to $400. The Samsung 830 series is good and faster. And I think Samsung Extreme (?) is a bit faster. But I love my Crucial!
