Sometimes the USB driver for the iPhone is corrupt, meaning that iTunes never realizes what is plugged in.
For iTunes 12.5.4/iPhone 6+
This should take a few seconds, and then iTunes should come to life and see the phone. At that point, you may have to tell the phone to "trust" the computer again.
Hi,
I'm using Windows 10 64-bit and iTunes 12.3.3.17. The problem only started after the latest iTunes update. It initially wouldn't recognise any of my devices. I managed to get it to recognise my iPhone 6 by following Chengtai2's advice and reinstalling the iPhone driver. But it still won't recognise my iPod nano which I think is 7th gen. Windows is trying to use some generic Microsoft driver for it. If I try to reinstall the driver for the device, it tells me it's already using the right one. If I try to manually point it to the usbappl64.inst driver, it tells me this driver (and all the other Apple drivers in the same folder) isn't compatible with 64-bit. I've tried stopping and starting the Apple Mobile Support service but no joy. I give in for the moment. I can see from Apple's nano support forum that others are having the exact same problem. Waiting to see if the next iTunes update eventually fixes it.
Have you thought about reverting to your previous version or have you tried that already? I've been trying to put music on my old iPhone 4 to have around as a glorified iPod Touch, but I can't get it to recognize using the latest iTunes 12.3 on Windows 10 64-bit, nor on iTunes 10 using Windows XP. It worked before, but not sure what's changed...
yeah, but it would mean totally uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes which would be a massive pain. We have two different Windows user accounts, each linked to a different iTunes ID each of which is associated with multiple different devices. Maybe as a last resort if the next update from Apple doesn't fix the problem.
I've been running into a similar situation. I rarely turn off my computer and occasionally, when I plug in my iphone 6, it won't recognize it. I'm running Windows 10 64bit (etron usb 3.0 controller). Here was my fix without having to download or install anything manually.
- go to Device Manager
- scroll down and expand Universal Serial Bus controllers
- right click on Apple Mobile Device USB Driver and click "Uninstall". You'll get another dialog box to confirm. I left the "Delete the driver software for this device" unchecked
- go to the top of device manager to Action
- select Scan for hardware changes
Then hear the awesome tones of your iDevice that's now ready to use.

Problem: iTunes did not detect my iPhone 6.
Using Windows 10, Win+R run devmgmt.msc;
Apple Modile Device USB driver was not listed in expanded "Universal Serial Bus controllers" list.
Had to install manually by going to:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
(note slightly different path from Chengtai2's post)
right click on
usbaapl64.inf
and chose Install
with iphone 6 connected, and itunes version 12.4.1.6 running; when prompted on iphone choose "Allow" access.
a few seconds later iphone gets detected.
Problem Solved.
You might want to check also the next directory (slightly different from the one which is mentioned further on in this stream:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Devices Support\Drivers
There's no '\' between devices and support.
Did the trick for me.
Good luck.
I had this issue on Windows 10. I did not have a "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple" folder (or in my case since I have Windows 10 x64 "C:\Program Files (x68)\Common Files\Apple". I installed iTunes which gave me the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Devices\Support\Drivers folder. When I tried to update the driver for my iPhone on the PC pointing it to that folder, it told me that I already had the latest driver.
However, the next time I connected the iPhone, the computer gave me the Trust/Don't Trust prompt. Prior to that it was just the iPhone asking me if I should allow the computer to access my photos, there was no trust prompt on the computer.
So if you don't have iTunes installed, it may be as simple as just installing or updating to the latest iTunes.
This worked first time have been searching for over a day, thanks very much
For those of you that couldn't get Chengtai2's suggestion to work, try this link; http://www.technipages.com/itunes-fix-iphone-or-ipod-not-detected-in-windows
If you do not have iTunes 12.1.3 try installing it
Repair or reinstall Apple Mobile Device Support. See iOS device not showing in iTunes for Windows.

Keyboard and trackpad are built-in. You cannot disable them. They want you to remove third-party peripherals.
