Sometimes the USB driver for the iPhone is corrupt, meaning that iTunes never realizes what is plugged in.

For iTunes 12.5.4/iPhone 6+

  • Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
  • Right click the file called "usbaapI64.inf"
  • Choose INSTALL

This should take a few seconds, and then iTunes should come to life and see the phone. At that point, you may have to tell the phone to "trust" the computer again.

Any solutions? I have uninstalled and installed iTunes like a million times and tried all the other solutions mentioned here but it still doesnt work 😟

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with third party software.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Problem: iTunes did not detect my iPhone 6.

Using Windows 10, Win+R run devmgmt.msc;

Apple Modile Device USB driver was not listed in expanded "Universal Serial Bus controllers" list.

Had to install manually by going to:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers

(note slightly different path from Chengtai2's post)

right click on

usbaapl64.inf

and chose Install

with iphone 6 connected, and itunes version 12.4.1.6 running; when prompted on iphone choose "Allow" access.

a few seconds later iphone gets detected.

Problem Solved.
