Why is the Error Code 0x8002006E While Burning the Disc?

What I don't understand is why there is no Apple support person responding to this problem in this forum.

Where are the geniuses? Or do they leave it to posters to make suggestions for a fix for this? My assistant had this problem occur this week, using Staples CD's, which have always been just fine, and now it's occurring on my computer as well. She's on an iMac with Lion, I just 'upgraded' to Snow Leopard.

Everybody on this Forum is a User just like you. Yes, they leave it to "posters" some of which can be considered "geniuses" but not the ones Apple pays for. 😉

I've been having this problem on and off for over a year now ... it doesn't seem to matter about the disk make, as I can use a Memorex / Staples / Verbatim etc one time and then it won't allow another time. Have even tried 4 or 5 times with same disk and succeeded on 5th attempt! This is the ONLY problem I have had with my i-mac which otherwise I love and would never go back to a PC.

Come on Apple - sort it out!!!

I have had this problem a couple of times. The problems seems to be dust. The solution, for me, has always been to wrap my drivers liscense with a lens cleaning cloth and stick it in the drive. The offending lens on a Macbook Pro is toward the center of the computer. Hope this helps.

They do make DVDs especially for that job and you won't risk damaging your drive with them.

Advice on dust seems to have fixed my problem. The final burning stage of the process would not initiate. Microfiber eyeglass cleaning cloth on credit card seemed to do the trick. I'll have to look for DVD's made for cleaning the drive and make that a regular upkeep. Thanks Miicaiah. adn RRFS.

I realize this is an old feed, but I would just like to share with everyone what I found that helped me.

Be sure to remove any punctuation or symbols from your DVD title and Folder Files.

Personal Example:

I was burning hundreds of JPEGS to a Verbatim DVD+R disc.

I was originally titling my DVD "Smith - Jones" (note the use of the hyphen) and my folders "B.E. Smith" and "E. H. Jones" (note the use of the periods) and was continously receiving the error message.

I then retitled my DVD to "Smith Jones" (no hypen) and my folders to "B E Smith" and "E H Jones" (no periods) and suddenly everything worked! I even placed my previously rejected DVDs back into my iMac and everything burned onto them just right.

I don't know the reasoning as to why this works, but it did for me...and I had tried most of the other solutions offered in this feed without much success. I also tried just leaving the hyphenation out of the DVD title and then just out of the Folder titles, but in either case I would receive the error code unless BOTH the DVD Title and Folder Titles were void of any punctuation.

(Occasionally, it would completely burn my DVDs and at the end eject them with an error code. BUT upon placing them back in my Mac and a Windows PC, the DVD allowed me to view all my images. Just be sure to re-check each burned disc if a message does appear.)

the truth of this entire matter and the reason apple will not respind properly is because their drives dont last more than a few months. anytime i have bought a new mac or had a drive replaced they always die within 6 months no matter how much or little useage i get out of them. so get an external or keep buying internals from apple. either way that is the "FIX"

That sounds about right. I already gave up and bought a little Samsung external for nothin' ($30) and my suspicion is that I'll get a lot more mileage out of that than the apple drive. Thanks ISPYDIAMONDS.

I am with you on this. Apple know's about this problem. I think they are trying milk us for $19.00 a pop rather give us the answer. It seems the service that Apple had given in the past is on the down grade since Jobs passing. I really don't think they care that much anymore.
