Hey There, Had the same issue after updating to 3.3. I think I fixed it by doing two things.
1) Select all images in the library, and "Update Preview", it may take a while depending how many. I had about 60,000 images in RAW. I did the process over night and it had finished by morning.
2) "Rebuild the Database" - hold down "option" and "command" while opening Aperture. This step may take a while however I have had to do it twice, once before for another issue, it seemed to finish in a few hours. Keep an eye on the "Activity Monitor" and watch that it is processing (you can watch the reads and writes) it may say "not responding" as long as it continues to make the reads and writes let it go.
I used referenced files, as opposed to letting Aperture Manage the files. Also, I have a Quad Core i7 iMac with 16GB's RAM. My images reside on an external 3TB Seagate Drive connected by Firewire 800.
I was reluctant to do it, but the Apple Support person told me the only other suggestion was to delete all the previews and regenerate. I figured it would take days with 60,000 images so I went this route. It has been a week now and all seems fine.
I have 8 more LIbraries teh same sive that are "Managed" to upgrade to Aperture 3 and I am reluctant to do so until I need the images for something...
Good Luck!!
Jack
Hi Jack;
I did what you suggested (Update Previews and Rebuild Library) but it did not help. I did, at one point also delete all 40GB of previews and had them regenerated but it did not change anything.
My suspission is that something had to change in Aperture in handling referenced files. I did not have this issue before 3.3. I will keep trying but if it doesn't go away, I will just wait for Mountain Lion, reinstall OSX and hope it goes away then.
