I am having a problem that my dock is disappearing . It had been at the bottom. When I move the mouse to the bottom part of the screen the dock suddenly comes up but i can't keep it in place . Please help me. Ronnie Houle
Welcome to Apple Communities.
Go to > Dock > Turn Hiding Off
did not help... the onlt things in my dock are safari, finder, and trash can?
When you open something else, it SHOULD appear in dock (and ostensibly vanish when you quit)
WHILE it is in the dock, put cursor onto that image, click and hold and then you get a box appears...still holding down the click, move cursor to "options" where you are offered "keep in dock" "open at log-in"
and "show in finder".
If you highlight "keep in dock" and let go (or is it click again) it should then stay in the dock when you quit it.
Same problem here.
Mac OS X v.10.7.4
Happened twice while watching fullscreen Youtube videos - Dock suddenly disappeared, wouldn't re-appear with "Go to > Dock > Turn Hiding Off".
ALSO! - Would only appear when I'd move the Size slider in " > System Preferences > Dock > Size", but as soon as the slider is released - Dock disappeared again.
Only rebooting helped so far.
full screen makes the video take up the, um, you know, ah, Full Screen. esc button (top left) brings back desktop
my bad, not while - AFTER WATCHING...
Try typing this into the Ternimal:
sudo rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Dock.plist
And then log off and back on.

Oh....Sorry.
Hmmmm... And you restart your computer daily at least?
Nope, not really... Once in two weeks maybe 🙂
Also, it happened only twice within last couple of days and I've been using this particular Mac since October '11.
OK I suggest restart then if it still happens, look into what morgan just said...
I'm afraid I'll have to restart if problem persists.
Morgan's way is more like a sorcery to me, so I'm gonna stick to the "blondie way" with restarting. 😀
I would also.. I am not a programmer and all.... there are maybe other things to do too..
the Pram thing the SMC thing.
Log out, unplug your computer and everything that is plugged into it. Even turn off the surge protector.
Wait a couple of minutes, and plug in surge then computer and start it up... try it- does it repeat the problem? Then plug in other peripherals you had plugged in. Problem there? Gone? If there- the peripheral may be it...
Also- have you emptied trash? Have you done disk utility>repair permissions? I was told when I was new here that I should repair after each software update... and DAILY re-starts...
I use mid-2011 MB Pro. First experience with Mac OS, but I kind of managed to use it in a very intelligent way.
As for this particular case - I have a tendency to think Flash is somehow the reason. About a month ago Chrome sometimes wouldn't show Youtube videos, although there was sound. Restarting Chrome fixed the problem and then it was gone.
Now it's a disappearing Dock after Youtube videos...
I'll probably start turning off my Mac when I go to sleep 🙂
