Iphone is not charging anymore

Hi, my iphone 4 was working fine a couple of days ago, but suddenly i plugged the device to my laptop and after a while i realized it wasnt charging anymore, i have tested on a lot of computers, wall charger, but i got the same issue, even on a mac but no luck.

So finally i turned off and after a while i realized the phone was fully charged, at least i found a temporary solution to this problem but its really anoying to switch off to charge the phone, if you solve this problem please let me know.

I believe it should be a software issue, because the phone actullay charges when its off.

I will be really glad if some apple employee answer me about this problem, i would like to know if ios6 comes out with a solution to this issue maybe by a simple firmware upgrade??

Ok so that problem happened to me too 3 days ago. Phone also charged when off. And today i found out that the problem is probably from the slot. I played around with the wire and while pulling it up (perpendicular to iphone), it started charging normally. So try doing that so you could know where the problem has originated. i.e. pins, battery or operating system...

Found some interesting stuff. The phone get charged when it was turned off. I set an alarm as it alerts after restarting the phone, Then phone turned off and turned back on. The alarm went on and found the mobile is recharging. unplugged the device from power source and pluged back. No sign of charging. Anyway my phone is not even one year old. I am going to claim the warrenty. **** happens!

I tried the following advice from Sam Costello at http://ipod.about.com/od/iphoneipodbattery/tp/Iphone-Wont-Charge.htm and it worked:

Press the Hold and Home Buttons (together)

If your iPhone wasn't turned off or won't restart, try this instead: hold down the Hold button and the Home button on the bottom center of the front of the iPhone at the same time. Hold them both for at least 10 seconds (there's nothing wrong with holding for 20 or 30 seconds, either, though if nothing has happened at that point, it probably won't). In many cases, the silver Apple logo will appear and the phone will boot up.

My iphone stopped charging also, if I wiggled the dock connector it would work for a little while. So I figured the dock connector was faulty. I made an appointment with an apple Genius & he asked me if I kept my phone in my pocket? I replied yes, it's almost always in my pocket. He then pulls out the SIM card key & proceeds to pull lint out of my dock connector! Works perfect now. Plug in your phone, is the plug flush? If not check it out, saved me $270 for a replacement iPhone 5. Good luck

Thank you, thank you! This solved my problem. My son's iPhone 4 was not charging at all and completely dead. It took about 20 seconds after holding both buttons and the connect to iTunes finally appeared. I had previously done this prior to reading this thread, but I guess I didn't hold them down long enough. Had to restore the phone, but not a huge deal with everything being backed up on iCloud. Thanks again...

Try the good 'ol rice bag thing because it might be that your phone got wet or moisture inside. Get a small sealable plast bag that can fit around it. Put raw rice like minute rice to fill the bag. then what I do to avoid the charging hole of being filled with rice, I put my charger pulg in the hole then put the phone in the rice bag. that way no rice goes in the holes. you can even put your phone is those rubber cases that covers everything. So I plut my charger plug into my phone and even plugged my headphones to it then I put the phone in the bag. I zipped up the bag all the way to where my charger was sticking out. after like half an hour I tested my phone charging against the wall and it worked again.
