I THINK IT MEANS THE COMPUTER IS TIED UP IN SOME FASHION. OTHER THEN WAITING IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN DO TO GET RID OF IT?

What ,exactly, is causing your Mac to get spinning beach balls and how frequent is this happening?
Spinning Beach Ball can happen for a number of reasons.
If you have too many applications or processes running?
Not enough RAM to complete or execute commands or processes?
If your Mac's hard drive is near full or has less than 15% of free space left.
Your Mac's Hard drive could have corrupt data or the HD could be failing.
You need to tell us what you have been doing with your Mac when the beach balls happen.
In addition, your need to tell us the make, model and year of your iMac.
We can't help you if we do not have sufficient information.
Shouting about a problem won't help us/you with finding a solution.
