macbook pro retina issue

Hello All,

I recently purchased a macbook pro retina display and have been noticing a small problem...Randomly while I am using my computer the screen saver will turn on. Even when I am typing or using the mouse it will flash as if it is going into sleep mode with the screen saver and then back to my screen. I have checked all my setting and cant seem to find out the problem. Anyone else experiencing similar issues or know what the problem might be? any help is appreciated!

I have the same issue on my MacBook retina since I gor it with mac os 10.8.0. I don't have any external hardware.

Till now no software update could solve the problem (actual 10.8.2).

Most time when I log in with my password, the screensaver starts again and locks the sceen. After second login it works most time. It still happens from time to time that the MacBook went to sleep mode and I can't wake him up. To open and close the MacBook doesn't help. I have to turn him off and on again.

Most time I work with the following apps.

1. Intellij 11

2. vmware 5

3. Firefox 16

4. Skype 6

I install every new update for all my software. Compare with the beginng the problems becomes a little bit better. I think it has nothing todo with a wrong driver. I think it's a combination of some programs, which are still not stable.

Same issue as above. I have used an Acer S230Hl monitor on three different MacBook Pros via the VGA wire and a thunderbolt adapter. No problems at all with 10.6, 10.7. Worked perfectly.

With 10.8 the display would not wake up from sleep--most of the time. I found an annoying work around that helped 70-80% of the time: unplug the VGA+adapter monitor feed, and then go to system preferences>>displays>>Color>>open the S230HL profile and then simply plug the monitor back in. I also delayed the sleep feature for 2 hours to prevent the problem, but teh failure to fully recognize the monitor happens most of the time when I close the lid or put the machine to sleep manually. Reloaded OS10.8, ran all the updates... seemed to help for part of a day then... the problem came back.

Now with Maverick (10.9), it seemed ot help for a day or so and... the problem came back. Now the elborate workaround that woked on 10.8 won't help. Hard lockups many times a day. Why the loss in compatability Apple? I've called applecare twice and the techs have not been able to help--and now are not responding or calling me back. Having to reboot my mac 4-5x a day is a *major* problem. Anyone have ideas for me?

Thank you!

I too was experiencing the random external monitor flickering/blacking out issue as well as seeing a persistent "DisplayLinkUserAgent (Not responding)" error in Activity Monitor. It's too soon so determine whether this solution has cleared the flicker/blackout issue but it has verifiably eliminated the "DisplayLinkUserAgent (Not responding)" error in Activity Monitor.

What's perplexing is that I have never had or used a DisplayLink monitor so I have no idea how the driver got on my relatively new rMBP in the first place.

Anyhow, I'm happy to have found this solution.

Thanks!
