restore itunes to earlier date for older backup

Only those backups, you use to restore from, will not be replaced by the newer version of a backup. This has always been the case, no matter which iTunes version.

Well, I tried to restore the old data from itool ( another software but much easier then itune). Somehow still can not see the old data. I wonder maybe there is something wrong with my backup? But it looks okay, 2.8G which alike other backup. I am so ******, spent whole weekend on this issue but can not figure out why!!!

I've had it for about 2 weeks, been as patient as a person can be. I've tried this support community- been to three different discussions, live chat with Apple, and called them up myself. Makes me laugh that they can't help me but one of my friends knows exactly how to fix it but just vanished out of my life. Stuck with this on my own.

I need to figure out what actually happened!! otherwise how can i trust itune backup again? You though you backup already but when you need it, it just GONE!!! So you know how people backup their data peroperly in differnt time point?

Well I learned from all this not to back anything up on icloud but rather your computer.

How this all happened to me was I have an ipod touch and an ipod nano. I've been syncing them to the same library forever but noticed a lot of my songs wouldn't sync to my touch but would to the nano. I guess it all caught up and when I plugged in my ipod touch a couple weeks ago it said in order to sync I had to restore it or register it as a whole new ipod. Right before I restored it I backed everything up- thank God, but I just can't pull up that file.

What happened to me was I heard there is a whatsapp upgrade but it may crash. I have not updated my apps for a long time so wanted to update them. Before I do the upgrade, I backup on July 12 ard midnight. When I finished app upgraded, my whatsapp crashed and stoned. So I wanted to restore it back to what I have no upgraded. This sounds like a perfect plan until I restore my phone and July 12 is not my backup option. I lost a lot of data, contacts and messages……..

Only thing I could get back were my contacts off of iCloud.

It may be worth trying a program called iBackup Extractor to explore your iTunes backups. If it can find the old iTunes backups on your computer, it will let you view and copy your contacts and messages to your desktop.

Thanks MegsiPhone, actually i just tried it today. There are 3 missing files but iBackup Extractor can detect only 1 file and only 1 text msg inside, how weird. I think there is somthing wrong with the backup file for SOME REASON.

Actually in iBackup, it says those files are "Incomplete and unencrypted"? What does that mean?

Hi eelsayu. Unencrypted means the backup is not password protected/encrypted. Incomplete I think means this was a partial backup, perhaps that’s why its only showing you some of the files.

I tried to install iBackup, they want a credit card for a free trial.

Hey MegsiPhone, Thank you so much for the explaination. But "partial backup" still have backup some files rite? In my case, iBackup can only detect 1 txt in 3 folders, there are totally 3.2G in those 3 folders, so weird.

I'm still using the free iBackup Extractor trial. You just need to click Continue Running iBackup Extractor demo when it starts.

I got a similar problem too..Once again,I got conned by the stupid Itune.Tried to sync all my apps into iTunes and the end result was all my apps got wiped out.Despite numerous restoring,I couldn't get back the apps,although the JB's stuff remained intact.This is strange because usually after I've backup,I'm able to restore it back.Nevertheless,during the last restoring,even my cydia stuff were wipe out..arrgggh!!! Although the older backups were in the appdata folder,it could not be called upon to restore.****.
