iBook G4: crash, can't boot, loud fan (?) noise
I was using my iBook G4 (Tiger w/ latest updates) when it suddenly crashed. The screen went black - not black like when it's off, but black like you're watching a dark scene in a movie. I couldn't get out of it, so I turned it off and tried booting up again. It worked but crashed a second time minutes later. After attempting to reboot a second time, random colors came up on the screen - fine pinstripes of pink, green, blue, etc.
Now, after several tries, all that comes up is that dark black screen. In addition, the fan goes crazy, blowing air really fast out the back (near the screen hinge) and making a grating, vibrating noise. The power button does not respond, so the only way to turn it off is to take out the battery.
It sounds like it's a hardware problem - turning it on with the Tiger disk inserted doesn't seem to help. Should I just bring it to an Apple store? On the plus side, maybe if I wait they'll replace it with a new Intel iBook. Haha probably not...Thanks in advance for the help, sorry for the long description.
