Cannot access my youtube account on apple tv

While I can access Youtube on apple tv (3rd gen), when I try to login into my account from apple tv I get a "wrong username / password" message. From doing a bit of searching it seems that this is a problem that has to do with Youtube using Google Account as login credentials, and now it seems that there is no way to revert back to the original Youtube user name / password. Has anyone discovered a workaround as it is important to be able to login into my Youtube account from apple tv to see favourites, subscriptions, sosf.

FINALLY

I got this. But not the way that you guys suggested. (Well, not directly..)

So, my YouTube account was made with an hotmail email, and when YouTube wanted to go all Google+ stuff, I had to accept bladibladibla and blabla, to convert to Google+ account. BUT I wanted to keep my username.

Now... I was thinking that my YouTube account had the hotmail account.. but no. It was the gmail account. BUT NO. It was a special plusgoogle.com account............ All this time..

So what worked for me, is instead of giving my gmail.com account to log in, I used the @pages.plusgoogle.com email. (I thought that I already tried that, but it didn't work.)

Just use my normal password (I disabled 2SV, because I was trying everything to fix this).

And voila.. it worked.. It was so easy to overlook. The google+ stuff is way too confusing.

I logged in by using the Remote app on my iPhone. It just works. Also the Apple TV is on 6.02 and on ethernet cable. (what some of you suggested to remove and go on Wifi?)

I hope I can help some people with my stupidity. 😀

Go here: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en and follow the instructions and then enter the generated password into YOUTUBE via your AppleTV menu and it should work (worked 1st time for me 🙂), will bypass the 2-Step verification process and log you in via your AppleTV (must be set up for each app-specific device - only need ot enter in the pasword once).

Any hassles, read more replies here or watch the YOUTUBE instructional video from Google+.

Hope this helps fix your problem! 😉

This actually turned out to be a pretty complex fix but I figured it out. None of the above worked for me.

ISSUE: I purchase Apple TV couple weeks ago. Initially I logged in used Youtube app with no problem. Then I went back today, and although I could watch Youtube videos on the app, I could NOT access the videos I had in My Channel.

ANSWER: Google just recently made changes to Google+ and the connections to Gmail.com accounts. It is THAT connection that caused the problem with the YOUTUBE app on APPLE TV. If you go to your YouTube account, and then go to your profile icon in the top right corner, click on it, you will then see your profile icon again, under Google Account. You will notice that under that icon, you can partially see the email that the account is associated with. IT IS NOT the EMAIL that you use for gmail anymore if you have a business account (not sure if this applies to non-business accoutns as well). Google has JUST RECENTLY made up its own email accounts to associate with the Google+ and YouTube business accounts. To see what that "email" or "new account ID is", CLICK on settings, then scroll down to THIRD PARTY TOOLS. It will say "Your page's username is: "xxxxxx-xxxx-xx"@pages.plusgoogle.com - You will need to CLICK where it says "Set up Password" and make a password for the new account name and then enter THAT email / new account ID and THAT password you set for it to log-in to the YouTube app on APPLE TV.

This took me ALL DAY to figure out. If I made someone else's life easier, that made my day.

This combination of steps worked for me. Thank you Chad & Akkaz

Step 1) Create a YouTube Channel.

This seems to sort of "complete" a YouTube account that was originally created through Google.

You can do this by logging into your Google account, going to YouTube, and click "manage videos." In the Upload menu, there's an option to create a channel. Or click on "favorites" and you'll be prompted to create a channel.

Thanks Chad!

Step 2) Create an App Generated Password

Go here: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en and follow the instructions and then enter the generated password into YOUTUBE via your AppleTV menu and it should work (worked 1st time for me 🙂), will bypass the 2-Step verification process and log you in via your AppleTV (must be set up for each app-specific device - only need ot enter in the pasword once).

For me it was slightly different process. If you have two accounts linked to one youtube...

You sign in and you get "this account cannot be used etc.." On Apple TV

Try this then:

1) on Desktop youtube go to Youtube Settings using your preferred account

2) under your user name click "advanced"

3) on the next page check the box that tells youtube to make that user your default sign in account.

Once I did that then I was able to log into yt on Apple TV. I didn't have to do the special verification code either.

The problem for me was I tried to sign in on Apple TV and the account I was using was not set up to be the default youtube account when logging in so I got the "account cannot be used etc..." Since Apple TV doesn't let you select from different accounts, this was a must for me.

Also log in with your associated email and not your user name.
