image capture has no option to turn it off under 10.10 like it did under 10.9. I can only select where to store things, and not iPhoto, if I recall

In 10.10 things will change. iPhoto will no longer come preinstalled with a new Mac, and the Photos.app has not yet been released, so there is nothing to be selected currently in MacOS X 10.10., other than a folder on the Desktop. We will probably see changes in the near future.

OMG, there must have been a tiny control icon contest. Thanks! Still, should habe worked from iTunes and frankly, should be a camera system pref instead of hunting and pecking for a system setting in multiple apps ;-)

but thanks again! Completely did not see that. Time to "adjust" for all my devices. would be good to have a default in the setting ;-)

Well that's not broken here.

What setting have you chosen in Image Capture?

I want to stop iPhoto opening when I connect my iPhone and have been following the discussion here. I've been able to do this using ImageCapture as suggested. However I understood that the way of stopping iPhoto opening when anything was connected was just to change the "Connecting camera opens" setting in iPhoto to which Cerniuk refers. However as he says this doesn't work in 10.10 so seems to be a bug.

when I navigate to the device on top left of Image Capture, my mac only displays my iphone....but not my mac. It is my Mac I am trying to not have IPhoto pop up every time I use my Mac. What's worse is I was at an Apple Genius Bar yesterday to have the assistant address this problem and was assured it was fixed, however, the problem was still present when I got home.
