Siri for iPad 2 in iOS 6

Why can't apple get Siri to iPad 2 ,seriously come on it has a A5chip and it is quiet powerful if an iPhone 4s can have it ,which still has a A5 chip?and in ios 6 they give the new iPad Siri and not iPad 2. I'm seriously I'm so disappointed with apple.i hope in future it comes or why not just in ios 6.0.

For me this boils down to a safety issue. I have a 3G iPad 2 32gbs and I take it with me every where I go. It's my complete communications device (phone, texting, social network and email), study aid and information kiosk. It's every thing I need and couldn't live without it. As I drive I text and when I do I'm a danger to me and those around me, if I has Siri I wouldn't take my eyes off the road. If Siri or at least the voice diction app isn't included because of some noise canceling feature not included in the microphone then I understand, well.... kind of because the new earpods will more than likely have that in it or I can use a Bluetooth device with noise cancelization built in, which I do. If it's a processor thing than I really do understand. If the machine can't handle it then it can't but it doesn't seem that way as the iPad 2 beats the iPhone 4S in every benchmark test I've ever seen. If the reason it's not included is financial, meaning I have to buy the new one, that's not cool and it angers me because my life and those around me are in danger. I don't have the money for The New iPad and the iPhone 4S is out because of the phone companies minimum of $70 a month price tag. The iPod 5th gen seems like a option but the $200 dollar price tag seems a bit too high for one app and won't work on the road so I'm still stuck texting and looking down to make calls while driving. I pay AT&T $25 a month and Skype $5 a month to have a phone and texting almost everywhere I go. If there is nothing physically stopping Siri (or voice dictation) for working why hold it back? Apple could open themselves up to lawsuits because of this. It seems like they don't really care if I hurt someone if it lines their pockets and I just didn't expect this from a company I trusted so much. Maybe it's a sign of the times for Apple.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.

WOW!!! You sound just like an abusive spouse. Apple, look what you made me do.

Grow up and take responsibility for your own life and the stupid actions you decide to take.

Not only is texting while driving asinine, its illegal in many jurisdictions now.

I'm not saying I would sue but can you think of a situation when someone might be in a spot where voice dictation could prevent an accident and someone might want to sue. All I'm saying is why should l have to pay $200 (at minimum) to get something though would save lives if it were there, especially if it isn't going to effect their bottom line too much. Sooner or later everyone will upgrade even me. If its just a money issue right now for a company that just won a one and a half billion dollar lawsuit why not help out loyal consumers of their products that is having a hard time with money right now. And you're telling us that in you life you've never texted while driving? That someone sent a message to you and was insistent on getting an answer while you we're behind the wheel and you waited to stop, and you always stop and then text, right?

No one has collected a penny so far. This is a strawman.

No, I have never texted while I was driving. I don't care how insistent someone was, I am in control of my actions. No, I would not drive & text. If it was important to answer the text then I would pull over and stop to text.

I haven't insulted you in any way so I respectfully request you do the same. I've barely insulted Apple. All I am saying if the decision not to include a completely capable device (if it even is) was strictly financially motivated then that simply wrong. If you can't see that they maybe you are too attached to the company or you are a stock holder and there's nothing wrong you being either. If simply means no matter what I say you never understand my point of you. I know texting whole driving is wrong but when a very sick, like on their death bed sick, I'm always going to answer. If that upsets you, I'm sorry. I'm no angel and never will be.

Well what did you do for a year before Siri(if it did come for ipad2)? It doesn't have the the same tech as the rest that do have Siri.

It's technology. It's dated when you walk out of the store. When your a kid and your parents buy you a sweet bike, top of the line. Then it's the best till next years model. No matter how much paint I use or add features, it's still an old model. I'm mad, but can't change anything. You bought an iPad 2 without Siri. Can't expect to get all the features of the newest model, then why would anyone buy the new? It's every successful company's MO. even with that being said the iPad 2 doesn't have the noise reduction chipset. The 4s was the first, followed by the iPod and ipad3. Which is why every device after the 4s has the "capabilities". If you don't believe that, then were backkkkkk to the bike story :)

It is a technical reason, the iPhone 4s and iPad 3 both use chipsets from Audience that provide voice recognition technology that the iPad 2 does not have. Your headset cannot provide this technology.

When you kill say a family of 4 because you are texting with someone on their deathbed the only lawsuit that is going to occur is one against you. It is a question of being an angel it is a question of being a responsible human being.

Sep 23, 2012 5:42 PM in response to Ethan 360

It must be wonderful have never done anything wrong or illegal so you can sit in judgement over me. I am responsible and if I ever do kill anyone because of my texting I'll accept what happens because of it.

It's never true that the tech is outdated the moment you leave the store. It the iPhone 5 outdated or the iPad 3 now? No, not even he one bought just seconds ago or the first one made. That's not every successful company's MO, maybe it is now. Apple use to care for its customers. They only dropped a device when the software required it. Your analogy about the bike doesn't work. How much has bike tech changed fom when I was a kid. I know it didn't really change from year to year then. I don't expect to get all the features of the latest version. I don't expect a suddenly change in the screen resolution or a camera upgrade but if the device is capable then I think I should get it. And like I said if for any reason it can't handle it then I should have it. It's really that simple. What about voice dictation? That's on the iPhone 4 does that have noise cancelization or the voice recognition chip? Because I would settle for that. I think my iPad, I love it and is just fine the way it is but it could alway be better. Are you always happy with everything you bought through its life? And thn when the next new slightly cooler thing came out gave up on it and got rid of it? Siri or voice dictation would simple make like easier, safer and better. That why I want either. I'm not asking for a complete replacement of my older device. Just that it do hat it's fully capable of doing. I won't jail brake it, I see no reason even if it could get me Siri. So if it true that Siri requires a chip that isn't in the ipad 2 then there's really nothing more to say. As I said I then understand Apple's decision bacisally because there is no decision to make.

Sep 23, 2012 6:01 PM in response to Br11741

Maybe not dated till the new model, but depreciated. Yes, my iPad 3 is the current model, but its USED. No one would buy it full price. I ment dated as in there's always a better product coming out quick that dates the recent model. No body would buy new products from apple, Samsung, Sony, Microsoft, Toshiba etc.. If the old model was matched with the new one. Most is tech advances which cannot be just "added" without supporting hardware.

However like I said and others on here, it's a technical reason why it is not. I didn't attack you on texting or anything you said. Just simply stating to everyone here that has ranted on about not having Siri on the iPad 2. You bought the iPad 2 for the features it had. Any additional is a bonus really(ios6).
