apple mail and exchange online issues

Hi,


since we use exchange online (office 365) for mail hosting, we experienced several problems with the mail.app.

First, the mail.app freezes often, requiring to force shutdown of the app, and restarting.

Secondly, when we write emails and send it, there is often a copy of the email that stays in drafts, which is very confusing.

And at last, we have receiving issues, as the mail.app sometimes don't receive emails anymore (but can send them) and a reboot is required to receive emails again.


All this is very confusing and problematic, as these issues don't occur on the two computer that use Outlook, I guess it's a mail.app problem.


Anyone experiencing the same ? Any workaround ? Or do I just need to wait for bug fixes ?

Its not a workaround its a legitimate exchange setup. As you rightly question how would the client know if its local or not?

In Outlook you don't have a setting for an internal and external server, just one address, so this is the only way to get Outlook Anywhere working. I suspect Microsoft will focus on Outlook a lot more that Mac Mail ergo this is the way to configure exchange.

Nice Post, thanks for sharing. I haven't seen the in/ex DNS issue, but I have seen Apple Mail take a very long time to sync with the exchange server and after 5, 10, 15 mins, it's still syncing with no progress/change to the Inbox data. A new iMac, a new Mail account configured with the exchange credentials and the most recent unread email is 02/11/13.

Are there any port settings to be addressed on the Mac side? Or is this just something completely dependant on how the exchange server was configured? I would love to see Apple Mail respond in the same way that Outlook 2011 populates all of the folders and current inbox results, but I am not convinced these apps can be parallels.


I've seen this many times, it's just the syncing with the exchange server will take all night just to catch up in time.

I have the same proble. Mail won't close unless with force to quit, after hanging and difuculty in sync the exchange account. As soon as I disabled my MS Exchange account, mail works fine now. I'm now using the exchange with my company laptop (PC) that uses outlook. I took this decision after a lot of suffering with mail when exchange is enabled. I hope one day Apple will solve this problem.
