In your iMovie event library do you not have "iPhoto Videos?" That's where they should show up.

I've got iPhoto 11 and iMovie 9 and I've never been able to get it working. I've tried many of the fixes mentioned in this thread and others. One of the workarounds that does work - export or drag the movies to a drive. Then import. Or, in iMovie, import movies, go into iPhoto and pick the movies and import. Problem is - it duplicates the files and takes a while to grab these. Especially if they are large. I find this odd - how iMovie handles media. I've got Adobe Premiere Elements and I can simply drag and drop files from iPhoto into a project and it's pretty instant that it's there. I think this duplicates too - but I'm not positive - I can't see a location where it stores them. But - either way - I find this way easier to use. Now - maybe it's because I have an old version of iMovie...

I was having the problem of importing videos from iphoto to imovie. Only a few clips were imported, but not all stuff - weird. I said, it is not possible that two apple softwares don't understand each other...

I found a way: You go in "Ablage" (sorry, my imac is German!) and then importieren (import) --> Filme --> scrolldown to go to "Media", --> Filme --> you see your clips there. Mark and copy what you want.

It takes a while (15 minutes depending on the size of your imported videos), it says "optimizing videos" . In imovie, in your "Mediathek" (you have defined a new event) you will see all your videos.

the version of my imovie is 11.

Hi Terence,

I have a similar issue. I have ilife '11 and there are many video files in my iphoto library (they are avi files from a digitial camera). These files play fine in Quicktime and also in iphoto.

However, in imovie they are not showing up. I do not have a folder called iphoto Videos in my imovie library at all (as per your screenshot).

I have tried all sorts of things... using File>Import Media, or dragging video files from iphoto and from Finder into imovie... nothing. They will not import.

Any advice? I thought this was going to be easy but having spent all day trying and reading support forum posts, I'm none the wiser.

Thanks

Jan

I found an iMovie help file that says not all video formats will automatically appear in the "iPhoto Videos" portion of iMovie. I think mp4 movies will appear, but avi movies won't (thus requiring export/import).

I'm searching for a listing of the acceptible file formats so I can get my video camera to use a friendly format from the get-go, but finding the info is a pain.

Hello Fellow Mac Users and iOS users. Wow this was a mildly frustrating issue. I am not going to go into all the detail of what went wrong, but here is WHAT WENT RIGHT!

Actually Terence TD Devlin was right to post the following but there are a few missing steps that are not so intuitive.

Export the video from iphoto and import it to iMovie

(FIle -> Export; Kind: Original)

My dilemma was to get a project or trailer from iMovie on an iOS device imported to iMovie running on Mavericks based machine

1. Connect you iOS device to your Mac

2. Make sure iTunes is open and sees the device and the back up sync has run

3. Open iMovie on your iOS device and go to Projects

4. Tap on the thumbnail of what you want to import

5. Tap on the Save icon and then select the quality of the video you want

6. Let the device save it to the camera roll on the iOS device

7. Open iPhoto and locate your video

Here is where we pick up TD

8. in iPhoto select File >Export, Kind:Original, select a location to save the file (desktop is ok)

9. Now Open iMovie select File > Import Media

10. An import from screen shows up (screen shot)User uploaded file

11. Select your file (on your desktop or specified location) and click on import selected

You are done

I hope this was helpful. It works for projects and trailers.

Good luck!
