In your iMovie event library do you not have "iPhoto Videos?" That's where they should show up.

Bob,

1. Have you exported the videos as Original from iPhoto as instructed earlier?

2. Have you found these files with Finder? If so, can you preview them?

3. Have you tried to import these files with iMovie? If so, what were the results?

The new iPhoto will import without converting more video formats nowadays. Some of these formats are not compatible with iMovie. If they had been imported with iMovie, iMovie would have converted them in the import process. For example, I have a Sony camera that records in AVCHD format. iPhoto will import and play these files but they do NOT show up in iMovie at all. I have to import them with iMovie if I want to use them with iMovie.

In the future, import your movies with iMovie if that's where you want to use them. If you import them in iPhoto, don't have iPhoto delete the files after the import. Then you can import the movies you need with iMovie from the camera.

So go back to my 3 questions and let us know. If you are getting to step 3 and can't import the files, you probably need to convert them. More on that later if that's the problem.

2. I did find hen in Finder , under desktop and could review them.

Try opening a file in Quicktime and sharing it with iMovie. File>Export To...>iMovie. If that works, great. You are done. This does not work with my .avi files off my Canon point and shoot. So if you have the same results, read on...

You have to convert the file to a format that iMovie can import. There are a lot of free programs on the Internet that will do this. Two popular ones are MPEG Streamclip and Handbrake. I would recommend Handbrake for you as it is much more user friendly than Streamclip.

Install Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php)

When you launch Handbrake it will automatically come up with the Open dialog. Select your file.

The default that it chooses will probably work fine.

Set the destination and file name.

Click the Start button.

After it finishes, the file still has to be imported into iMovie. There are two ways to do it. In iMovie or in Quicktime (as mentioned above.)

Once this works, you can convert all the files in Handbrake. Instead of clicking the Start button on the toolbar, click the Add to Queue button. Then click the Source button and pick the next file. CHANGE THE DESTINATION and then click Add to Queue. Do this for each file. You can view the queue to make sure you got them all. Common mistake is to forget to set the destination for the converted file. Once you are done, click on Start.

When it tells you to put down your cocktail, then you can import all the files in iMovie.

Good luck.

p.s. Handbrake is most commonly used for moving a DVD to iTunes or iMovie. So it is a useful app.

Don't normally go on forums but i've spent all night messing around with this......i now open imovie first, close down iphoto when it pops up unless i connect just my camera for still images......import them all and they will be placed into imovie.....i always delete from camera, otherwise i have no space for new vids and pics, right the only way i worked out how to do it is....

1.Using roxio toast pro(or i imagine any other one you have)...the dvd software which is well worth the money by the way

2.make a dvd of the video that is in iphoto which you cannot get into imovie (no matter what!!!!!) lol

once thats burnt,

3.eject the dvd and put it back into the computer

4.it will pop up import all as if you have just connect the original camera again

and voila your iphoto video is now on a disc and also on imovie for you to make a final dvd with music and editing and what not!!!

really hope this helps anyone who has the same problem..
