DVI to ADC, DVI to Mini Displayport Not Adding Up...

Hey Everyone,

I just bought a great looking Apple 17" LCD Studio Display off a friend to compliment my white Macbook (2011). He also gave me his Apple DVI to ADC converter-Great! After pouring over tons of discussions things don't seem to be adding up for me. Here's what I've pieced together so far:

In order to connect ADC to a mini displayport, you need the DVI to ADC Adapter. (✔)

Then, you connect the DVI to ADC adapter to a DVI to Mini Displayport Adapter and that connects to your Mac...

I haven't purchased a DVI to Mini Displayport Adapter because in looking closely at all the connections, the Mini Displayport Adapter is made for a DVI-D Dual Link connection, BUT, the DVI to ADC adapter is a DVI-D Single Link connection.

The difference being:

DVI-D Dual Link:

24-Pin connection

One continuous 8x3 section of pins

One straight line pin next to this set

Whereas,

DVI-D Single Link:

18-Pin connection

Two separated squares of 3x3 pins

One straight line pin next to this set

I haven't bought the Mini Displayport Adapter yet because I can see the obvious difference in pins, but I haven't heard different, maybe not all the pin holes need to be filled in and that is how it works, but as of right now the two just don't seem to fit together correctly.

Could someone please tell me if the two adapters do indeed work together, if I am just plain crazy, or if I am correct and if so, where can I find a DVI-D Single Link adapter for my macbook!
