How to uninstall Logitech Mouse

Before I install my new Logitech LX7 cordless mouse I want to uninstall the old Logitech mouse. I see that the Logitech Control Center resides at the bottom of the System Preferences window. Do I simply drag it's icon to the trash? I have located some other Logitech items in the users library. Should I trash these as well? This will be my first time uninstalling a device and would appreciate detailed advice. Thanks!

Hi frazzm737,

The Logitech Control Centre installer disc should actually have an uninstaller on it (the downloaded version certainly does). I would be inclined to use this.

The most significant Logitech files that need to be got rid of are the "kexts" which it places in your HD/System/Library/Extensions folder. You may also have to delete related cache files. These ".kext" files are the things that provide the Logitech control centre with its "hooks" into your operating system. The files in your user library are benign by comparison.

You can't drag things from the "System preferences" window to trash, I'm afraid. You have to go to the folders in which such things are located to get rid of them.

You will find another folder of Logitech stuff inside HD/Library/Application Support (with a DeviceManager and an LCCDaemon file inside). THere will also be a com.Logitech.ControlCenter.plist Inside the folder HD/Library/Preferences.

Given the wide variety of places which Logitech places files , using an uninstaller makes good sense.

Hi Fran,

Exactly. Just trash all these files you found.
You can use EasyFind to retrieve them all.
After you deleted every item, logout/login, so that the icon in System Preferences disappears too.
That's it.

I believe an "uninstaller" is included in the Logitech installer driver package. Open the installer and look for the option to uninstall - probably at the installation panel.

I thank you all so much! Being new to the Mac, I just knew that I might create problems without some experienced help. I have found the 'uninstaller' on the Logitech CD--this then is what I will use?? I am also glad for the list of other places to look so that I will be sure to have everything removed. I can't tll you how much it means to me to have these discussions to turn to when I have questions! Thanks again and you will surely hear from me again if I have any difficulties. Fran

You're right, of course use the Uninstaller first if there is one,
but,
running EastFind after an uninstaller has proven on occasions that it doesn't always remove everything properly.
My last example: Microsoft Messenger.
I knew also an example of the Macaroni desinstaller that failed to retrieve the (back then it was...) ...default "cron" settings.
That's why I don't fully trust in uninstallers.

I used to have a logitech mouse. I recall, surprisingly at that, the uninstaller did a pretty thorough job of removing extensions, app. support items, etc.

And I certainly agree with you, it's a very good idea to check via Spotlight or EasyFind whether the uninstaller has lived up to its name.

Thanks again! Without your input, I would never have thought to look on the CD for an Uninstaller. I have had 'Easy Find' on the machine for some time and will use it to search for any remnants. Now I feel ready to tackle this job as soon as my order arrives.

Thanks to all of your help, I am now using my new mouse. The uninstall of the old one went well and I succeded with the configuration of the new one and it is working perfectly!! Thanks again for helping me.
