MacBook Pro mid 2012 hard disk click

Hey all,

Received my brand spanking new MacBook Pro mid 2012 model just a few days ago only to be disappointed by a clicking noise coming fairly regularly from the hard disk. I've plenty of experience with "the click of death" as some call it, and so I called Apple about what to do.

Two options: send it back to them, or go to a Genius Bar and have them look at it. I opted for the later and took it in, explained about the click and they said they'd replace the drive. Great. However... I go to pick it up today, get it back home and after about 5 minutes of using it, and there it is: the click again.

Could I just be really unlucky here and have received a second faulty hard disk? Or could this be something else like a problem with the circuit that supplies power to the hard disk (not enough juice / too much)? Has anybody else received the new mid 2012 MBP and had a similar problem? Could this be down to a faulty batch of 750gb HDDs shipped to Apple?

I know, that's a lot of questions, but if anybody has any ideas or any info, that'd be great!

That drive is from 2009, 3 years old. Mine does not say that, late 2011 model. Also more then likely it says that because it came from the factory with it formatted with the Mac format instead of being a RAW, unformatted, drive.

I have the same problem, I live in Mexico.. I bought the MacbookPro on September 5.. The technician of the store says is normal, they don't solve something.. I call to apple, but they says is "normal", they not want do change.. I'm desesperate, I don't know that do.. help me!!!

The only thing you can do is use it As Is until the drive fails. Then hopefully it is still within the warranty and have Apple replace it.

I have a Macbook Pro mid 2012 13", 750 gig Toshiba HHD, it makes a whirring sound for just an instant when waking from sleep.Have had the Mac about 5 months and it just started making this sound. Does not effect the operation of the Mac. Just kinda bothers me.

I bought mine April 2013, same clicking noise. I took it to the shop to have it repaired and it hasn't made that noise since. What has happened now is my CD/DVD drive doesn't eject the cd's. I am never buying another Apple product ever again.

Same problem. It started after 1 month circa from the purchase. I've been already to Genius and they didn't find anything wrong.

After a week after the check ...it started again. Yesterday from the night and today in the morning. I am reading some suggestions to wait the fail of the hard drive and I would like to reply : is it that a joke? - Sorry but I bought a new machine and I don't want any worries about that - working and thinking that one day the hard drive will fail maybe... when I am in front of a client. This is crazy and isn't professional at all.
