sorry a bit vague ji just got a virgin contract and put the micro sim in my iphone 4 but i cant receve any picture messages i have enabled them on my phone but apparently i have to change the apn settings i have tried this but no luck as there are many different versions on the net i just need one that works

What does Virgin have to say about it...
MMS has to be provisioned in your carrier account AND, your carrier has to be fully compatible with iPhones. MMS also requires a data plan.
See the list below to check if "virgin" (country not stated) supports MMS. If it's not on the list, MMS may not be available:
they say they are working with apple to fix it but many people have resolved it by changing apn settings but as i said many different versions of settings on internet i just need one that works

It seems obvious that Virgin would be the source of correct info. Not likely to find it here, particualry since you didn't mention your location.

Virgin isn't an official iPhone carrier. You'll have to talk to them to find out if it can be done.
These are the MMS settings
Access Point Name: goto.virginmobile.uk
Username: user
Password: (leave blank)
Authentication: Normal
Data bearer: GPRS
Gateway IP (proxy) address: 193.030.166.001
Port: 8080
Session mode: Permanent
MMS Message (Relay) Server URLhttp://mms.virginmobile.co.uk:8002
Although You shoudn't need to manually enter these settings, as your iPhone should be set up automatically once it is synced to itunes. Once the settings are installed ensure that the MMS settings are enabled.
on my Apn Settings for mms i have the following menu
APN
Username
Password
MMSC
MMS proxy
MMS Max Message Size
MMS UA Prof URL
so similar to the settings you put but not the same
also a menu above this with
APN Username
Password
