Mail will not leave a copy on the server

Hi All,

I have recently changed how I receive my emails. I used to use a server and then Entourage to get my mails from the server.

However I now no longer wish to have my server turnde on all the time so am going back to using mail on my Desktop mac, my macbook pro and iPhone.

Firstly I have deleted the mail account on my server so it is no longer receiving emails.

My iPhone is set to receive mails from my ISP mail server and leaves a copy on the ISP server

Now I have the same problem on both my Mac and Macbook.

No matter if I have the leave a copy box in preferences ticked or unticked and now matter what time setting (1 day, 1 week etc) both Mac and Macbook remove the message from the ISP mail server as soon as they receive the mail.

I'm running OS X 10.7.4

Anyone have any suggestions?

That link was no longer going to the page you likely were looking, at but I was able to roam around their site. It appears their email is some sort of clone of Google or Gmail. As such, it might be expected that the set up "wizard" would default to IMAP rather than POP. In Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information what is the account type shown as?

Hi Ernie,

Sorry have not been on here for a few days.

Thanks for your reply.

OK so for now I am using Entourage and have entered the exact same settings as inputted to Mail and it works faultlessly. I will use this for now however ultimately I would like to get Mail to work as it should.

OK so in Mail under the Account preferences it says.

Virgin.net IMAP

The Virgin.net bit is the name I gave to the account. I can onyl assume that it is an IMAP account as in the advance Tab the settings look very different to when I had the account type set as POP.

Based upon what I read, I would have expected Mail to default to IMAP setup as it does for Gmail, which this apparently is a clone of

But if on any device you had it set up as POP, then messages could easily have been removed without your intent. If you had thought this was a POP, but instead was IMAP, then it is hard to follow what may have happened at various points of time.

In Entourage, was it set up as IMAP or POP? Were you ever using both Entourage and Mail?
