How do I reduce # of files on computer (namely iTunes) and place in alternate location?

How do I reduce my hard drive space? i.e. iTunes and photo files. I am trying to move them to my time capsule but apparently between 2 separate TB externals and my time capsule, I can't seem to find the best method to shrink my overall file space. I've already manually deleted all of the duplicate files, and put the music location on to a separate external hard drive but I am still not able to use my time capsule the way it was designed for backup because it is telling me my overall space is not sufficient enough to back up the files yet my largest area of files would be itunes and possibly my photos.

Any assistance on this is appreciated!

How exactly is your drive space being used?

It is hard providing assistance without real numbers as to space of files of various types and drive sizes.

The bottom line is, files require finite space. Once you've dealt with duplicates you have to get rid of some completely or at least archive them on another drive. So many bulky files these days are already compressed as far as they will go.
