how to add a DOE NYC email on a MacBook Pro mail application, how to add a DOE NYC email on a MacBook Pro mail application, how to add a DOE NYC email on a MacBook Pro mail application

im trying to add the DOE email to a macbook pro. The help desk told me that there is no way of adding that email. The only problem I see is the port error.

Does anyone knows what port to use? or what I can do to add this account to the macbook pro?

thank you.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Can it be added to a Windows PC? If it can then the ports are the same, no difference what so ever.

Other then that if it need to login to some type of secure network before it connects to the mail server then you may not be able to use Mac Mail and must go with whatever program is needed to access it. Only the DOE help would know what that is.

But my guess would be MS Outlook to an Exchange server.

I read that is good to have the SSL box check but when I check the box the prot change from 80 to 443.

When i click get mail it gives me the error of wrong port.

I did added on a PC but using the outlook application.

I know I can add the email to my iMac using the outlook. However, if I have all my emails in one application I belive is better right??

I dont know whats the port that outlook uses I try to check it on their application settings but I cant find it.

The key to figuring this out is determining what e-mail server software they are using, and is it behind an office firewall. If it is behind an office firewall, they need to provide you with a virtual private network connection, often either Citrix or Frac based VPN. Citrix often requires Java, which has been problematic on Macs since the discovery of the Flashback malware, which I reference the latest updates here:

If it is Exchange without a firewall, sometimes they setup a web based Exchange service you can connect to. That might require running a different web browser if the built-in Exchange support on Mac OS X Mail or Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac doesn't work*:

Or running Windows on your Mac:

If they are using Lotus Notes, there is a Lotus Notes client for the Mac:
