My iPhone 4S will sync with my Mac Pro, iPad and my MacBook Pro via iCloud but will not backup to iCloud. iPad will backup to iCloud with no problem. What is the likely problem?
Go to Settings --> iCloud --> Storage & Backup on your iPhone. Is iCloud Backup on (near the bottom)? It sounds like you would like it on.
You may also want to try when the device is connected to itunes go to the summary page and click "back up to icloud".
Yes, iCloud back is on. Every time I try to "Back Up Now" I get the message "The last backup could not be completed."

Do you have atleast 50MB free on your iPhone? Check by tapping Settings > General > About.
Do you hvae enough iCloud storage space to create another backup? To check, tap Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.
iPhone has 40+ GB available. iCloud has 4+GB available.

I had this same issue! The way I fixed mine was go to your settings, then click icloud, then go to storage and backup, then manage storage, then click on the device you are having problems with and delete the old backup. This fixed my problem. Hope it helps!
Thanks for your suggestion. However, I tried to back up three times and I kept getting the same message that the backup "could not be completed". When I went to delete the backup the second and third time, rather that giving me the size of the old backup as it did previously, it merely said "Incomplete". The backup size is only 601 MB and there is 4.2 GB available so that can't be the problem.
The size isn't the problem. You need to delete the backup so it resets the backup because for some reason it is messed up. This then allows the phone to create a new backup and it should work fine.
I have tried your suggested procedure several more times since my last reply. It appears that the old backup is being deleted all right but it then never completes a new backup. Every time it loads the old backup before it will let me delete it, I get the "Incomplete" message rather than giving me the size of the old backup. And the cycle continues.

Well after reading and trying all the following. My wifes iPhone still did not backup. The one thing that was not mentioned was putting it in airplane mode to force the the phone to stay in the wi-fi mode. What was the issue with the wifes. It would reverted back to 3G and the backup stopped. So..... by puttinp it in airplane mode it backsup now.
