It does not come with a disk so I am curious how this would work.

You need to boot the system to the Recovery HD. Hold down Command+r key at startup. Open Disk Utility and erase the Macintosh HD. Exit out of DU and select Reinstall Mac OS X. Select Macintosh HD as the place to install to and wait for Lion to be downloaded from the net. The computer will restart when the download is finshed and the install will start.
hi, does this completely clean the laptop and delete everything previously on it. as I am selling the laptop and need it to be like new sans all my data etc.

I hade done the formatting of the HD but when i reinstall the mac ox mountain lion . Its show " an error occurred while downloading . Please restart the application again"

I am doing the same thing. I have deleated the harddrive and when go in again and try to reinstal mountain lion it asks for my apple ID. I have 2 and tried with both and it comes back saying: "you have to log in with the id that you purchased mountaion lion with".... I tried with the two accounts I have and none is working??? what can I do?
I already sold the computer and the person is just waiting for met o fix this!!!
Which MacBook Pro model do you have? If you're selling it, you have to sell it with the version of OS X that shipped with it, not a version of OS X that you later purchased. See Thomas Reed's - How to prepare your Mac for sale.

thanks for the quick reply.. seems as this is the problem that I have updated to mountain lion. I will need to find the cds that cme with the computer. If I dont find them is there any solution?
With your serial number handy, you can order a set of machine-specific DVDs from Apple. Cost is about $20USD + shipping and taxes. You really do need this set to pass on to the buyer, just in case they ever need to recover the machine. The new owner can always upgrade the OS should they choose with their own Apple ID.

When I click on Reinstall Mac OS X Lion, it says "A server with the specified hostname could not be found." Then it takes me back to the original menu. I need to reset the computer, will it work still!
