replacing ipad shell/case

Can the factory outer shell be replaced on a first generation Ipad. If so can Apple offer this service?

No. Technically, sure. But not in the 'send it away and get it fixed' kind of way. I'm sure the iPad1 is long out of warranty so all it'd be available for is an out of warranty repair, which starts at $249 and goes up. You pay that price, they swap out your one for a refurbished iPad 1, which you take home and they send yours off to be refurbished so it can be swapped out for someone else's later down the line
