@me.com vs. @icloud.com

I set up my iCloud account last month and it required me to set up an @me.com email. I am now told that on August 1 - @me.com accounts will no longer work and I need to get an @icloud.com email. Anybody know anything about this?

Welcome to the Apple community.

Not only have I not heard anything about this, I have not heard anything about iCloud.com addresses, where have you seen this information.

what about when ios6 is released?

Then Apple will make a public announcement, which will tell you and me what the situation is. What happens in the private beta periods is not relevant to regular users. Until things are set in stone and Apple publicly announces something, nothing is for certain, nothing is changed, and there's nothing you can or should do.

I erased me.com from my Mac mail and added the iCloud.com instead and now it works fine. It even lets me choose between me or iCloud before sending.

My question is, my iPhone and iPad now have my original me.com email and now I have the newly added iCloud.com as well. So when I go to send emails from either, I can choose to send from me.com, iCloud.com or my iCloud.com (yes, duplicated). So I should delete my iCloud and reinstall it. Should I choose to keep all iCloud data on the phone or remove it?

Csound,

How can you possibly know what happens on my computers or devices?

What I posted is all correct:

1. icloud.com has been rolled out. I can send and receive messages from that account.

2. I have a duplicate icloud.com account.

3. Neither the original poster's me.com nor mine work anymore for some reason...

I cannot use the me.com to send or receive anymore. Only the icloud.com address. Thus what the original poster wrote about: "his me.com account not working and him having to get an icloud.com account" && what I originally wrote, "something happened and its very similar to what the OP said" are true statements.

As I poster above, the @icloud.com address is additional to, and does not replace, existing @me.com addresses. If your @me.com address is not working this is a fault condition and you should contact Support. New @me.com addresses cannot be created, but existing ones are being maintained. A number of people are having a problem, and I'm sorry to hear that you're one of them; but it's not what is intended to happen, it's a problem which apparently Apple are aware of and are trying to resolve.

You have a fault condition, the OP and your conclusions are wrong, I don't know how to make that any clearer to you.

Hi all,

After finding this post via google, because I was searching for an answer as to what the differences may be, if any, between @me.com and icloud.com, I would just like to add to this forum (for clarification) that in my case I bought an Ipad 3 about 3 months ago whereby I created an Apple ID for it with my personal e-mail address; because at the time I did not have an @me.com e-mail address. Once this was done, a few days later I was doing something whereby I was then asked to create an @me.com e-mail address. This in turn created an @me.com e-mail account with the Mail app.

Shortly after that I logged into www.icloud.com using my Apple ID (using my personal e-mail address) as I wanted to manually insert some contacts and calendar details into their respective online apps (as opposed to using the respective apps on my iPad). I found it quicker and easier to use www.icloud.com.

Anyway. After reading this post (now 3 months later) I have just logged into the apple id website and found that I have my personal e-mail address listed as my Primary e-mail address for my apple id. And that my @me.com e-mail address is listed as one of my alternative e-mail addresses. Furthermore, apple have since, automatically, created an @icloud.com e-mail address for me with the same username as my @me.com e-mail address. This means I can now log into www.icloud.com for example with any of these three e-mail addresses. Meaning my @me.com, @icloud.com and @personal_email_address.com e-mail addresses all allow me access to my apple stuff (as stated on the apple website).

Just thought I would clarify that @me.com and @icloud.com e-mail addresses do both work (i.e. you can use whichever you like) with the Mail app and the iCloud website for example. And with synchronisation of course.

Regards

Yoingco
