Odd sbcglobal.net email behavior

Just within the past few days ALL of my Mac devices (iPhone / MacBookAir / iPad) have been rejecting my MacMail sign-in attempts with my sbcglobal.net IMAP email account. NOTHING has changed on any of the devices. It keeps telling me that my password has been rejected, yet I never changed anything and just one day it stopped working. I can get to my mail via the yahoo.com website using the VERY SAME password that going in via MacMail pings back as being incorrect.

I am stumped.

Anyone have any thoughts / ideas / remedies?

Thanks in advance for your efforts

Hey Theo- No apologies needed! I hope I did not come across snot raggy! Just matter of fact- we need all the details...

But well, if things are back, EXCELLENT.

I entered a password once, making a typo in the creation...It was not until I got on the phone and all to get the reset going that I saw the password i had been putting in, though "Correct" as I thought it was, it was wrong in what I had created... ack.

That thought carries the pepsi-syndrome to scary levels. eh?

Anyway- I bet Glenn is Right about systems being bad. Apple even had an outage a few days ago, for me it lasted fifteen minutes before I called. I was getting miffed, as new comments appeared.... then when I called it was all down the fellow said not sure what or when. Hour later I came on and all was well again...

Be Well!

Just for fun, go to the SBCGobal.net website and google mail settings and then compare what they tell you with your Mail>preferences>accounts say and see if they have made a change (like say when the new addressing thing got clicked in....or for any reason)

IF NOT That, a couple of weeks ago a bunch of folks were having the same thing and at mail>pref's>accounts, tell us if you have "use only this server" box checked...

IF not, then you need to click the arrows, and select "edit smtp server list" and confirm that you select the one for the SMTP SBCGLOBAL account- not say, iCloud- and then click OK and then select use only this server- and do it, matching the proper account, for each.

Tried all sorts of things and to no avail - AND now the SAME thing is happening with my aol account that I maintain for website inquiries etc to minimize spam in my gmail box.

I can sign on via the web/browser but both sbcglobal.net and aol.com are NOT allowing me to establish those mail accounts on the iPad by saying that the user name and/or password are incorrect, eventhough I can do so through a browser.

Very weird

Thoughts....anyone?

Thanks

There are problems with certain AT&T/yahoo accounts. This includes SBC and other acquired companies.

Yahoo also had problems with password leaks which was causing problems. I have no idea what or how AOL ties in, unless they are also using Yahoo servers.

This may or may not be part of your original problem.

@Crampy - my apologies as that was kind of a glib answer.

I did do my best to seek out info on te web as well as comnfirm assorted settings but to no avail.

So today I try setting this all up again anew and NOW it works. It took a few times with me stubbornly refusing to accept the admonsihment that the password was incorrect and then all of a sudden it "took" it and the inbox was populated. All seeimgly back to normal for iPhone4S, iPad and Mini with Mail 5.2, although the iPhone is still not happy verifying AOL
