I am puzzled because i thought I had deleted evrything bar the OS and yet 47GB is still being used up so i am wondering if there are some hidden files which I can access.This is in regard to my old computer which i wish to give to someone clean bar applications.I did a volume erase vis disc utility but that didnt make much difference.I used Onyx to perforrm a clean up as well but feel sure there is more i can do.Any ideas?

The last list you posted said 3736602 which is 3.6 GB and you have deleted more since.
Most/all of the password were probably within accounts you deleted. Do not delete the applications.
Is it possible, though,to create another ID account with a different password ib the old computer without compromising my new one, ie can I still use my current ID in the new one?
