1333mhz Ram in same mac as 1600mhz ram.... Is it ok?

I had an imac.21.5 2011 model and purchased 8 gb ram sticks for it... But they were 1333mhz ram.... I recently sold it to get a macbook pro 13 2012 model.. Can I stick one of the 8gb ram sticks in with the already 1600mhz 2gb stick?? If i do will it mess anything up and how will it read it? The only reason i want to is because I spent like $40 to get em......... Thanks for any help in advance...

So its not even worth trying? My Macbook pro is still under store warranty so should I try and see what happens? I can always take back to store and get a new one or even something different.. I mean i still have like 25 days of store warranty..... I asked a guy up there that was suppose to know what he was talking about.. I wont say no names or company but hes said everything should be fine.... He even had an Apple store shirt on...(oops)..... But in your honest opinion what do u think?

It may or may not screw up your Macbook..

Keep in mind, your new Macbook has a system bus of 1600MHz which is why 1600MHz RAM is required.

If you decide to mix your 1333MHz, your whole system will try to downclock to 1333MHz because the is the slowest speed.

In any event, your Macbook might or might not boot. If it does boot, you'll experience a few crashing here and there because of the lower speed RAM.

Suggestion: Not even worth trying. Sell your old RAM and get the right one for your Macbook.

Good luck...

I stook it in and everything booted up fine (so far).... I checked about my mac and its reading the 1333mhz Ram at 6gb... I thought they were 8gb but they were 4gb instead..... i have one ram chip at 4GB of ddr3 1333mhz and the other one is 2GB of ddr3 1600mhz it reads all 6GB but it says (6GB 1333mHz DDr3..... So far so good... I haven't really noticed any difference in how fast apps open or how many i can open. That might just be the HDD i have spinning at 5200 rpms though... IDK........ If I have any problems i'll prolly just take it out and sell it on craigslist to make my $$$$ back....But (BIMMER) your saying my cpu automaticall runs slower just to use the 1333 mHz right?? Cause thats NOT what i want

Your whole system is clocked down to 1333MHz instead of the stock 1600MHz which proves the point I said in my reply.

Your computer will run slower on a few things. You might not notice the difference right now but it might give you issues in the future.

Going from 4GB to 6GB is not a big jump. Especially the way you did it.

Your system will be stuck at 1333MHz until you install your old RAM back to bring it up to speed.

Good luck.

Alright I see what ur saying.....Dangit!.... I just wanted it to work i guess.... here i go time to unscrew and put the original ram back in..... Time to put it on craigslist and try to get my money back.... i bought it from Newegg but there return policy is all jumbled up..... Rather see if anyone around here has a use for it..... Thanks for the help
