Spilled Juice on my Laptop! - HELP!

I just spilled orange juice on the keyboards of my mac. (1 cup). I started to dry it off when it suddenly shut down in the first minute of when I spilled the juice. I know this was a really stupid mistake. My laptop is now drying on the fan. I have tried turning it on once every hour and there is still no hope. Is there still hope that my laptop can survive? If not, do you think Apple will help me fix the laptop for free?

Thanks for the feedback...so you really need to make some decisions: while $700 is probably more than the computer is worth, working, on the market, how much is it worth to you? Given the advances in technology, even with a guarantee it would work, would you be better served with a new unit, and all the features that would open up to you?

There are a lot of new MacBook versions just released this summer that you need to weigh...visit an Apple store or reseller and spend some quality time up close and personal with the different models so you can make an informed decision.

Sorry this didn't work out too well, but good luck in your decision making.

Hi,

The same happemed to me last nite.

I spilled less than 1/2 of glass containing orange juice on it.

the screen immidiatley went but when I pushed and hold the power button it came again and I just could shut it down.

I oppened the backcase there were some drops of sticky liquids on differrend parts, I cleaned them.

but I did not have proper tools to remove the battery.

I tried several times to turn it on but it did'nt work.

even after 15 hours it was still dead.

does ur Macbook work propely now?

is there any hope to repair it?

Did your Air turn on with AC?

Mine was completely dead, even after 1 week I hadn't turned it on it was totally dead.

I opened it and found sticky dried juice anywhere...

technicians told me the fault was Bcuz of sweet substances if it had been water there would have been a chance..

I don't know how sticky, dried coffee could be or not sure if you had some sugar inside..

but if the sticky liquid penetrates into the logic board and especially the chip, then unfortunately you

must forget about your laptop and think about a new one.

but there are alternatives as well, the logic board is changeable but it's expensive (mine was around 1K $) also it's

available on ebay with better price.

so if you could find one around 600$ it worth otherwise getting a new one is much reasonable.

I did not go for changing the logic board, I accepted that I messed with 2,200$ laptop so I must pay it's toll.

but this time I went for a 13" Macbook pro and a Retina Display Ipad, which the total became also cheaper than a 15" Macbook pro.

the dead body of the previous one is still in my room as an example of inattention..

I proped open my laptop and dried it for at least 2 weeks before attempting to turn it on.

My laptop has some problems such as: it only works as long as the power cord is plugged in

Other than that, my laptop works fine

The apple genius told me that it would cost $700 to fix my laptop, but I don't have the money so I guess I will just have to deal with the problem

drying out wont help ANYTHING, the residue left behind will corrode and cause shorts.

Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills

After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.

The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.

Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it

After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.

There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.

Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.

In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.

In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.

contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement. 😊
