How to sum values in a table row that match a given index

Is there a way to set up a formula in numbers that will sum up values in table columns that have a certain index number in another column.

for example:

A B C

1 5 10

3 4 12

5 5 15

3 2 12

I would like the sum of the values in column B & C where there is a 3 in column A.

In this example the formula would return 30

What I actually have is several hundred lines and 10 accounts (index numbers) for which I want to sum the debits (B)and credits(c) for each account(A, index) . I was tryng to do this on another summary sheet, using array calculations in the "IF" without having to have an entry for each index line and I got stymied. Maybe it just cant be done.
