I bought the IOMEGA ZIP 100 drive. I use it with the PC, but not with my Mac Performa 5200 running OS 8.5.1. I downloaded the IOMEGA ZIP driver 4.3. When I plug in the scsi into the Mac my display is shattered. What can I do in order to run the ZIP drive?

I bought the IOMEGA ZIP 100 drive. I can use it with the PC, but not with my Mac Performa 5200 running OS 8.5.1. I downloaded the IOMEGA ZIP driver 4.3. for the Macintosh. When I try to install the driver, an error message occurs, which tells me to plug in the ZIP drive. When I plug in the scsi into the Mac my display is shattered and the cursor freezes. What can I do in order to run the ZIP drive?

A lot easier would be to do the following:

1. Network to a Mac running Mac OS X with the card I gave you earlier via ethernet*:

Bring it in to an Apple Store where you can do that, and buy a USB Flash drive to connect to that Mac.

2. Drag the file to the Mac at the Apple Store.

3. Drag the file onto the Flash drive.

4. Put the Flash drive on the PC, and copy it there.

Hello a brody,

thank you for your support.

How can I transfer a big 5 MB Word file from to the MAC 5200 to the Windows XP?

I have an iMac with OS X 10.5.8. and I have an USB flash drive. On the iMac I have installed Airport and it works in conjunction with my router, a Fritz!Box 7240.

My question is, whether I can connect the router Fritz!Box 7240 with the Performa 5200 and OS 8.5.1. in order to transfer the big word file; the Performa 5200 has a female connector RJ-45 plug and a cable with a male connector RJ-45 is available. Is it better to link the Performa 5200 with the iMac directly?

Kind regards

Emanuel

Emanuel,

It is usually better to connect two computers via an Ethernet switch than directly. The Fritz!Box appears to have a built-in switch, so you should be able to use two of the LAN ports for the connection.

One way of allowing both PCs and Macs to connect locally, regardless of operating system versions, could be to use a web server on the Performa 5200 (which apparently has been equipped with an Ethernet card). Is there a Web Sharing control panel in the Control Panels folder? Otherwise, you may want to check whether your Mac OS (8.5) system disc has a custom installation option for Personal Web Sharing. The idea would be to use a normal web browser for the connection to the server.
