WiFi (DHCP) connection Problem

I have just bought a new iPAD 3 but could only get it to connect to my home network when I configure the IP address manually? It doesn't work when I use the DHCP setting. Everything else works on my router including my daughters iPhone.

Anyone know what's going on?

The iPAD works fine in the house but I suspect not much use if I want to go to another location - coffee shop etc.

HELP!

Why are you trying to set up outside WiFi connections using a static ip address? You should let the host router assign the IP address along with the rest of the settings. Setting up a static IP address at home is fine as long as you know what the settings you need and know how to set up your router to prevent it from assigning another device the static IP address you selected.

Thanks for your repy - yes I have checked these settings. I have now resolved the problem - it would appear that my router was too slow for the iPAD as it was busy doing other things. I reset the router to clear out the junk and it all works fine now. The iPAD just needed to wait a bit longer before giving up or my DHCP server needed to be faster.

The reason I set up a static IP address for my home network was because the iPAD was not getting an IP address whenit was set to DHCP. I didn't want to configure it this way but didn't have any other choice.

Anyway, resetting my router to clear out all the expired IP addresses from the DHCP seems to have fixed the problem as this has allowed the DHCP server to respond faster to the iPADs requests and before it gives up and assigns the 169.254.XXX.XXX address.
