64G SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 Flash Drive

I've tried 2 sticks of 64G SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 Flash Drive in my Macbook Pro Retina.

Unfortunately, none of them works.

My Macbook Pro Retina works great with my usb3.0 WD 1T harddisk as well as other usb2.0 flash drives, but failed to work with 64G SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 Flash Drive.

Compatibility issue?

Any Suggestion?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I got 2 replacement drives sent from Sandisk themselves. One drive works perfectly fine, the other one displays the same symptoms as already discussed in detail.

With regards to the working drive, I can format it with fat32, exfat, it works just fine.

I believe there is nothing wrong with my Mac's USB 3 ports, to me it looks like Sandisk got issues with the 64GB drives.

My first one of these wouldn't work either - I sent it back to where I bought it for a replacement and the replacement works fine. I did notice that the inner packaging on the fucntional replacement was slightly different - the clear plastic was 'fused' together where the first one was not. Probably a sign that it is from a different (working?) batch.

Anyway these USB sticks are pretty amazing when they work (so fast!), so its worth sending it back til you get a functional one 🙂

Hi all,

I just received my first-ever USB3 flash disk.

It's not a SanDisk, it's a PQI "U821V" (USB 3.0/2.0 16GB).

I do have very similar issues though, with my MacBook Air:

- long time to show up in Finder

- impossible to use (too slow)

- wil automatically unplug itself after a minute or so, and complain (âš ) that it should not be unplugged so violently

- no way to format it Disk Utility (will never unmount)

BUT... plug it with a USB 2 (not 3) extension cable, and everything works fine... except it's not USB 3 and it's a pain to carry a cable with the stick!!

(not to mention it works perfectly on a Win7 PC - but with USB 2 only: can't tell with USB 3)

I also bought another one for a friend from PQI. I thought it was the same in another color, but the cas is different... and this one seems to work perfectly on the MBA.

So, there are problems with MBA USB 3 ports... even if they occur only with a list of devices, these devices are not only SanDisk.

Hello,

Is this problem resolved by anyone? Can anyone provide a solution to this because I'm still facing the same problem with my MAC Mini (2012+ model).

When I connect a newly purchased Sandisk Ultra USB 3.0 16GB my MAC freezes (mouse, keyboard does not work) and am unable to do anything except wait like a dumb. But then the good thing is the MAC responds back when I just disconnect (pull off since it doesn't allow to be Ejected ) the USB stick.

Any Solutions, tricks would be appreciated.
