Boot Camp Assi doesn't like my external system drive

Hi all,

I have a Mid2011 iMac with 2TB internal hard drive, superdrive and an external Thunderbolt SSD.

On the SSD is my system, on the internal hd is just data stuff.

So my problem is when I start the Boot Camp Assistant it gives me this error

"You cannot partition an external disk or RAID disk.

Restart your computer using an internal disk that is not part of a RAID set."

so, what am I supposed to do? My internal drive has no system installed so nothing to boot from.

Because it is an alternative to Boot Camp Assistant and includes a means to backup and restore?

Multiple people just today alone are having issues iwth a VM + dual boot setup and each overlaps the other. And I have been known to reply to A thinking it was Mr B.

Is recommending cloning OS X w/ Carbon Copy Cloner ads too I guess? Or that a lot of tips on Mac Pro performance come from a few sites primarily (MacPerformanceGuide is a good one).
