Firefox disappearing trick

On my G4 under OS 10.5.8 recently on opening a page in Firefox 3.6 28 almost immediately the whole page can often just disappear and can't be got back without navigating to it all over again when if I'm lucky it stays put. Any ideas?

Thanks. This is I guess what I have to do if I want to move to Lion, Mountain Lion etc. etc. I don't want to move to Lion etc. There's a huge matter of principle here. I have systems both on my G4 and on my iMac which do everything I could conceivably want to do for the remaining few years of my life. BUT commercial pressures won't allow me to do that. If I want to continue with my G4 I'm told that Firefox, its plugins etc. are no longer secure. I move to TenFour Fox only to find that many sites don't work because they need Flash Player, or the embedded videos need QT Player. Why can't I be left alone to enjoy doing what I do and what works perfectly? What does 'not secure' mean? Is someone going to be able to invade my htts sites and steal my passwords or what? If enough of us objected perhaps we could resist this perpetual mercenary pressure to dump perfectly good systems and buy the latest and the priciest, the same way we are forced to throw away washing machines and TVs and re-purchase.

I am grateful for all the help here but very unhappy about where we are being forced to go.

If I return to Firefox on my G4 what do I have to disable or otherwise do, and how in order not to be too exposed to fraud etc. As you will gather I am not as young as some of you out there.
