how to import pictures into illustrator

Hi All

Anyone know of a quick way to bring photos into Illustrator?

I do a lot of site visits and take photos of shops etc to do visuals for the new signage. At the moment after having to import pictures into iPhoto (have iPhone) I have to drag them from iPhoto onto the desktop (or a new folder on the desktop) and then import into Illustrator. This meand I now have 2 copies of the picture, surely there's a more efficient way of doing this?

thanks

1. You don't have to use iPhoto to get pics off your phone. Check out Image Capture (in your Applications Folder). That would remove iPhoto from the equation entirely.

2. You could set Illustrator as an external editor for iPhoto. You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

Doesn't Illustrator have to save it's files to these formats

File > Save (and Save As)

  • Adobe Illustrator (ai)
  • Illustrator EPS (eps)
  • Illustrator Template (ait)
  • Adobe PDF (pdf)
  • Adobe FXG (fxg)
  • SVG Compressed (svgz)
  • SVG (svg)

which are not iPhoto compatible? That would prevent using Illustrator as the external editor from within iPhoto.
