I was hoping iOS 7 would allow me to view purchased TV shows and movies from iTunes without downloading first on my 4th generation iPad, but after the update it STILL downloads instead of playing live (same with my purchased music).

I've also can't find anything documented anywhere that says iCloud streaming is enabled for iPad/iPhone with this release. Are you sure you weren't streaming from another iOS device in your home?

I would LOVE to be able to stream my purchased iCloud content without downloading it first, but I am definitely not seeing this ability yet, even on iOS 7. I hope I'm wrong!

Try going to Settings -> iTunes & App Store and making sure that Videos is turned on under SHOW ALL. This should let you see iCloud purchases. Then if you go to the Videos app, you should see your undownloaded purchases with iCloud icons next to them. Tapping one should start it playing. If it doesn't, there is a trick: Go to the iTunes app and download an episode, pause the download, and go back to Videos. The undownloaded episode should appear there and be playable, even if you don't actually continue the download.

I am able to stream no problem...I only have .5GB of free space to confirm this.

Now, my problem is the quality of the stream. I can't find anywhere where I can set it to SD. The Max available download speeds in our area is 6Mbps...not nearly enough for HD movies. It's a pain for my streams to be constantly buffering.

When I go into the Videos app on the iPad, tap on a TV season, and click on "Show Complete Season" at the bottom, I get a selector for HD/SD. Does that work?

I believe this remains unresolved under iOS 7. Check your usage stats. Real pity. Every cloud item tv/film downloads. No streaming option that I can locate. Claims that it is possible need a detailed procedure.

Have you tried it? I can definitely stream both tv and movies without any tricks. Just like in iTunes, you need to go to the Settings app and under iTunes & App Store turn on SHOW ALL Videos. Then in the Videos app you can just tap on the video you want to play. If you tap the cloud icon it will download, so don't do that. Just tap the name of the TV show or the big play button for a movie.

Hi, Yes, I've tried clicking on the name, the video thumbnail and the cloud download icon. The latter obviously behaving as expected.

TV episodes and films are all retained (downloaded). Usage sows every episode and every film occupying 30 plus GB of space. I was not hitting the cloud download icon. I've operated Mac's and associated devices for many years. Thinking I was streaming and all was working well, I was yesterday presented with a capacity warning. Due to above.

I've had to manually delete 60 plus tv episodes. Really frustrating process.

Here is the answer to your question incase you were still searching. Home sharing does have to be turned on in iTunes and then you go to the Videos app on the iPad and your shared videos can be streamed from there. The above link explains it clearly. If you try to access them from iTunes, you are still forced to download.

I still think the best option is AirVideo. My desktop, which hosts my purchased content, is my personal iCloud server. I can stream all my purchased movies (not just the ones obtained through iTunes), but from any format to my iPad / iDevice / AppleTV. Conversion is done in realtime to mp4 format - quality is excellent, even on my 1080p TV via AppleTV and AirPlay. I can also choose to download the movie/show for offline viewing. I can stream/download my content within my local LAN or on any public wifi network for viewing in an airport, hotel, on vacation, etc...

I have a 16GB iPad, just bought "Man of Steel" for my kids there is no way that movie could fit on my iPad with the amount of junk the kids have on it but they were able to stream the movie to their iPad without any problems.

Tap on the 'videos' app which is part of every iPad and as long as you are signed in with the same Apple ID as the one you bought your movies with you will be able to stream or download all your purchases.

Are you kidding me? You do know that anything in the " video" app has already been downloaded to your ipad. You were NOT streaming anything.

Apple will never fix this as they really don't care what we the users want. They have our money already and they probably get a good laugh knowing fools buy movies but don't have enough space on there overpriced underpowered iPads to watch them. LOL

Forgotten Rebel, you are wrong. iOS 7 _does_ support streaming iTunes purchases. For all who actually want to use this feature, please ensure cloud purchases are visible by going to "Settings->iTunes & App Store" and turning on the Videos switch under SHOW ALL. See the attached image. Then in the Videos app, your purchases will show up, and you can stream them _without_ downloading them first.
