iTunes says computer not authorized. When I try to authorize computer it says it is already authorized but will not play song

iTunes says computer not authorized. When I try to authorize computer it says it is already authorized but will not play song. Note. Library was moved from PC to MAC. I am signed in to Itunes with the Apple ID created on the old computer which is different than the Apple ID used to set up the MAC.

I'm experiencing the same thing under iTunes 11.1.1:

  1. iTunes says the computer is not authorized, prompts me to authorize
  2. I enter my credentials, iTunes says computer is already authorized
  3. When I attempt to play song, iTunes starts at bullet point 1 above over again.

My attempted fixes:

  1. I tried everything in this support document, to no avail: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389 (Note: I cannot find a SC Info folder on my Mac)
  2. Deauthorize and then reauthorize computer
  3. Delete song and try to redownload from iTunes store - there's only a button that says 'purchased' with no option to redownload it

Note: I am using only one iTunes account, and I double checked the song info - I'm authorizing the correct account - 12 songs from the same album purchased at the same time play fine. As does the song in question - from the finder. Only iTunes stubbornly refuses to play it.

The most odd thing is that iTunes music is DRM free - the song in question was purchased only a few months ago. Thus there's no need to authorize the computer to play it.

I was hoping that iTunes 11.1.1 would cure it - no dice.

At my wits end. I have done everything repeatedly. I am sure that the computer is authorized for all three accounts. I've deleted the SC info folder multiple times. Followed both of the knowledge base articles and I still get the error.

Apple if you are going to give this error, you MUST have a way to find which items are not authorized, show the authorization expected, and give some tool to rectify the situation. Obviously, this is a major bug. Just as a suggestion, do the stupid sync and then give a list of items that weren't synced and why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me too. I have only ever had one apple ID, and only ever purchased songs via that ID or from CDs. It seems to have started with iOS 8, but I can't be sure. It is driving me completely nuts. If there IS stuff on there that is unauthorised, how the **** can I find out what it is?

And while we are at it, even without this issue, I am completely fatigued with the number of times a day I have to enter my apple ID and password these days.

Hello guys,

I have the same problem, but finally I found the solution!! 😀

I think you can try to find out which apps/songs are not available on your country or not authorized maybe (by trying update it), and delete that apps/songs. Then try again the sync. In my iTunes, it works! I hope this could solve your problem too 🙂

The idea of this solution came when I remembered last time I have problem in updating an application. It says that the apps is not available in my country (I don't know why the application become like that). Then I tried to delete this app, and retry the sync with my itunes. and Magic! it solved!

I just solved this problem for myself last week and I was so excited! I had logged into iTunes on my laptop as an authorized computer and done all of the other steps mentioned and none of them worked. I then went directly to my internet accounts for my laptop (Macbook) and found that my account hadn't really been added. I still had an old MobileMe account (which is debunked of course) and an iCloud account, but all of then were sort of half accounts and didn't contain all the info. Go to you Apple icon> System Preferences> Internet Accounts> add account. From System Preferences, I also went into iCloud and changed settings there. When I corrected all of my info, all of my iTunes purchases magically appeared and were playable!

I believe I found a solution for this.

(1) Delete all your songs (purchased) song that you are having trouble playing.

(2) View -> Show Downloads -> Uncheck "Allow Simultaneous Downloads"

(3) Click the little person icon next to the search library -> Purchased

(4) Make sure "Not in My Library" is selected at top

(5) Bottom right click "Download All"

Yes this may take awhile if you have TONS of music. But this fixed it for me.

Im getting this problem too but on songs I have ripped from CDs that I own. It is asking me to authorise the computer although its already authorised. As My Cds are stored at my parents house and I am currently living in another country it is not possible for me to re-rip the songs. either. How do I go about fixing this issue? I used to have itunes match and most of my MP3 files were replaced with Apple ones but I thought these were DRM free. Any help would be appreciated.

Everyone who's experiencing this problem don't lose hope. I have the same problem too, my laptop can't sync my songs to my ipad. I tried to reset my ipad mini 3 but I forgot my restriction password. Then I tried to uninstall and install again my itunes on my latop but it did'nt work. So I decided to search here at the apple.com and I saw many comments that you have to reset your iphone/ipad but of course i did'nt reset my ipad. So i tried to remove all the file of my itunes in my laptop and uninstall the program then after that, I install it again and finally IT WORKS!! I can sync my music now to my iPad mini.

Device: iPad mini 3

iOS: iOS 9.3.2
