Thunderbolt to FireWire adapters

What is the actual release date of Thunderbolt to FireWire adapters in July? I understand they say it's in July but now we are down to the final weeks and still no word on the actual release "day". I just bought a MacBook Pro with Retina display as well as an Apogee Ensemble and when they arrive they'll basically be very pricy paper weights since I can't connect them until I get that adapter.

I have also been following this closely, and spoke with Apple yesterday.. No new info from what's in this post.. Sonnet express card adapter is the best option so far it seems..

Does anybody know if there is a Hub that I could plug a firewire peripheral into and have a USB out to my computer? Any hub I have found with both USB and FW requires both USB and FW out as well.. I need a hub that I can plug FW into and USB-ONLY out.. anyone?

Also can anyone explain why a Firewire to USB cable is impossible?

IOGear makes a hub that connects to the computer via firewire and has both firewire and USB2 ports. I do not think you can go the other way (ie connect to the computer via USB) as USB is host-based and firewire is peer-to-peer.

Belkin also lists a hub that connects to the computer via thunderbolt and has firewire and USB2 ports (the thunderbolt express dock).

[half an hour of installation, AUval and Kontakt library file re-linking later]

Logic 9.1.7 (24-track 48k session, running as 32-bit with a 64 sample IO buffer) now pumping through my new FrankenUAD setup 100% fine, including multiple UAD-2 AU plugs running on both the Apollo and a daisy-chained Satellite Quad on tracks and the master bus.

FYI my Kontakt and Extended EXS libraries are running from a Glyph Portagig RAID over an OWC ESATA -> USB3 adapter, barely breaking an IO sweat.

Workaround freaking city. Pretty nice for a laptop, though.

Now I have to wait for the ACTUAL Thunderbolt daughtercard for the Apollo. Universal Audio originally promised "First half of 2012" availability for it... oops. Now they're saying "Fall 2012" which I believe buys them up to 1:07 A.M. EST December 22nd.

That OWC USB3 adapter works SHOCKINGLY well assuming you have a quad eSATA drive.

On my Glyph Portagig62 2.5" RAID I went from FW800 56MB/sec read 79MB/sec write on my 2008 MBP to 169MB/sec r/w speeds(!) using the USB3 adapter on the rMBP. Same drive, TRIPLE the read speed.

The main bummer is it's not bus-powered over USB.

Make sure the EC34 FW card is officially rated by your vendor or YMMV. UA specifically supports the StarTech dual FW800 card I'm using (EC139482) which is why I already had it on hand for my 2008 MBP.

I have the new Macbook Pro Retina and it has no Firewire port.. All of the hubs i've seen that have a Firewire input, need a firewire output.. There are ones that have Firewire and USB inputs, but they all have Firewire and USB outputs as well, and require you to plug in both for the hub to work.. I'm just surprised there's no way to send a Firewire signal into some kind of hub and have it convert there and send out of the hub via USB..

And I am having the problem everybody else seems to be.. I'm not able to hook up my Digi 002 Rack (audio interface).. I'm really hoping this cable comes out, although Sonnet's card reader would solve my problem, and probably be nice to have in the future.. it's just not ideal plus it costs a good deal more than a cable would be
