My Macbook Pro Retina's USB port on the right side not working at all

Dear all,

I received my macbook pro 15inch with retina display a week ago, but not until today had I got the chance to use the USB port on the right side, only to find out that it is not connecting to anything at all. I have tried to use my iPhone 4 and iPad 3 with two different cables, my USB thumb drive, and my Blackberry 9900, none of them are charging nor shown in iTunes/Finder. All of above works on the left and on other windows machines too.

I'm also not able to charge my Blackberry with the usb port on the left side, thought it would pop up a message saying "charging not supported" on the phone.

For you information, I have applied both updates including the one released few days ago. I have also tried to reset the PRAM. Also, I have migrated from my old late 2008 13inch unibody Macbook using Migration Assistant, not sure if this would affect anything.

I'm aware that there have been reports and discussions regarding the USB port not been able to run devices on 3.0 speed, but I wonder if anyone else have the same problem with me, where the port simply not connecting to anything at all?

Well, add me to port issues group. I have a MBPR 2.7GHz Intel Core i7 with 16GB ram that I bought back in June of this year. Have had issues mainly with the right side port, but the left has done it as well just fewer times. I'm running an up-to-date 10.8.5 OS. I have hesitated to take it in to Apple but it's looking like the handwriting is on the wall. Have others had any success just by upgrading to Mavericks?

I have the exact same problem.

- Late 2013 13" Retina MBP

- OS X 10.9

- External monitor using HDMI

- Wireless keyboard and mouse (two seperate receivers)

- Plugged into original power supply

When i plug a wireless logitech mouse into the right USB port, it is jumping around skipping all the time, like it is loosing the signal. When i switch to the left USB port, there is no problem.

Same problem with a wireless keyboard: When plugged into the right USB port, it reacts very slowly, skipping keys, sending double strokes, etc. When plugged into the left USB port, no problem at all.

I also have the problem where no USB device functions on the right USB port. I have a Mid 2012 15" retina MacBook Pro (2.3GHz CPU upgraded to 2.6 and memory maxed to 16GB).

The laptop has already been serviced for a screen replacement (ghosting, persitent image issues) and I do recall being able to use the right USB port BEFORE that servicing. :-(

I just got off the phone with apple support after having this problem myself this morning, they explained that resetting the SMC means power will reroute back to the usb ports as they arn't getting enough power to function.

On my Macbook pro it was as simple as turning it off, holding down Left Shift, ctrl and alt and the powerbutton for 5 seconds, then rebooting, fixed all issues.

You can see more about it here and theres insturctions for if you have an older machine:

Until recently, both USB ports worked fine on my machine (MBP 13'' late 2013). A few days back, the left port suddenly got audio issues. Anything plugged into it works fine except for USB headsets which now have crappy, dulled sound to them. Tested this with several headsets. The right side USB works fine.

Resetting the SMC and NVRAM didn't help. Have to resort to analog audio jack, this is sad.

RHS Port slow! (MBP Retina 15" 2012) - I'm having an isue with right side USB3 port - it is far slower than the LHS port. e.g. to copy a 26GB file from a (fast) USB3 stick to MBP, on the LHS port it takes about 90 seconds, buit on the right side, it takes 10-12 minutes, not much faster than USB2 speeds. I'm on Mavericks 10.9.1 with all firmware updates current. Obviously the port is not working that well - considering a trip to the Genius Bar. Anyone else noticed this speed difference.?
