I have a HTPC running win 7 and I am seriously thinking to install the Lion OS. The motherboard is an Asus M5A88evo and the processor is an AMD Phenom II 840. I would like to know if it is possible to do something like that.

Not legally, and only with some difficultly otherwise. Buy a MacMini and run bootcamp for your Windows 7
I want to unistall completely win 7 and install OS X as the only os in the pc. The thing is that I don't know if there are any compatibility issues with the hardware
Besides not being legal if you do manage to hack things so that it installs the results will be totally unreliable.
Besides the problem of non-Apple hardware you are facing the additional problem of AMD.
Apples use Intel and OS X is designed for that processor and not AMD.
I see this project as doomed from the start.

Read Apple's OSx licensing. You can only legally run OSx on Apple hardware.
