Free Mountain Lion Upgrade

I filled in the info for the free Mountain Lion upgrade on my retina macbook pro... unfortunately I'm from Canada and it asked for a zip code (even though I was on apple.ca). I put in my postal code and was able to "submit my info" and get a claim reference number. Hopefully it still works.. I did notice it appended United States to my address too.

I just went ahead and bought it. The free download is only good for one Mac, and I have two, so I have to buy it anyway. If it were up to me, I would have made the serial number the redemption code. The it would be zero steps to get the redemption code instead of 12. Of course, without 12 steps, it wouldn't cure alcoholism, but you have to make some trade-offs.

If I can afford to spend $3,000 on a laptop, I can afford to spend $20 on an OS. It's not a big deal.

You are actually prevented from purchasing Mountain Lion once you have the UTD free activation. It is literally impossible to purchase it once you have redeemed the code. Regardless of what legal-ese Apple has in the fine print, it is impossible to follow their terms.

Did anyone actually try to install the free upgrade on another computer? I have a new Air, and waiting for the free upgrade, but if I anyway have to spend $20 on upgrading my older iMac, I could just as well pay now instead of waiting for the free upgrade.
