    Like other's here I called apple after 6 days and within 10 minutes got my first email back from them. Moral - don't wait! Call them...

    Ended up calling, person was supportive, but didn't solve the problem. However, I also received a cryptic e-mail from the update program responding to my request to change my e-mail address. I sent them an alternate address and it worked. Apparently our MS Exchange server rejects, with no indication, zip file attachments; I thought they were coming as pdfs.


    A note on calling; at first I asked Apple to call me. That didn't work. I got several e-mails telling me they tried but were sent to our voice mail system. Apparently, whoever was trying couldn't bother to listen to our switchboard message.

    I have been waiting for a week and made my second call to Apple support today. Still no response so I am not hopeful. Really this is shameful from Apple. I am getting a little annoyed since I want to install office etc and would rather wait until after installed. GRR

    I rang apple support a week ago and they said yes I was eligible and they would look into it. Sent them a follow up email a couple of days later. Still no follow up. Gave up and payed the 20 bucks. Disgusted

    I found it was necessary to


      1) apply for the update at the on-line web site


       2) make it known via e-mail to the update staff I was having problems


      3) and finally give them an e-mail address that does not block zip files.


    The file they send is a pdf file, which should have gone through our system, but Apple first encoded it as a zip file, which is a no-no on our university e-mail system


    I tried phone Apple support, but they couldn't help me with anything I couldn't, and didn't, do myself

    I purchased my Macbook Pro with OS Lion from Amazon UK just under a month ago. I decided to apply for the Mountain Lion Upgrade and sent in a copy of the invoice but because it did not have the part number on the invoice they refused to upgrade.


    I spoke to one of their team leaders in apple Care and I explained I was new to Apple and sure you do not want disappoint a new customer explaining I am thinking of returning my Macbook to Amazon because I am still within the months return right. He still said he could not do anything. I said will you honor the warranty and he said oh that is fine but without a part number on the invoice we can do nothing.


    I spoke to Amazon UK and they said we do not put part numbers or serial numbers on our invoices but we will inform the management of your problem with the view of changing our procedures.


    Amazon said they will accept a return and refund after the 30 days because I have failed to get the promised Mountain Lion upgrade.


    I find it difficult to believe that Apple will lose the trust and confidence of a new customer for $20


    I must admit I am tempted to return the Macbook Pro but I really enjoy the using the Apple operating system after using Windows for many years.


    I realise that looking after the customer is dead and buried in the modern computer world.

    You could always ask Amazon to give you the $20 since they can't provide an invoice with the actual Model Number of the item you purchased.


    I hope you got a good discount from Amazon for purchasing old stock.

    Barney thanks for the help. I had considered doing that tomorrow. I think they may do because I am one of their good customers.


    I am in the UK so we pay more than in the States. I got it $150 less. The box inside Amazons box  had 12th December 2012 wriiten on it.I looked on that serial number age of your mac finder site and it mentions either June or December 2012.  When did Apple start shipping the Macbook Pro13 with Mountain Lion.


    I ask because I do sometime wonder about the age of Amazons stock

    I couldn't tell you, but Apple pretty much builds and ships immediately. So, Mountain Lion was likely on Macs shortly after August. They don't sit in a warehouse waiting until some orders it. Very often, you have to wait until it is actually built for it to ship.


    There are some websites that can decipher the Mac Serial Number and tell you the exact date of manufacture. You type in your serial number and it tells you the date. I don't know what kind of security risk that might be, if any. This site has a couple of links to those serial number checkers:

    Apple was shipping systems with Mountain Lion right after it released in July.  So systems from Apple would have had Mountain Lion in August for sure.  You should work with Amazon on this; they shipped you a system that had been on the shelf for a while with an old OS; Apple's program was good for 30 days, not 8 months.

    I only received the Macbook under a month ago and the uprade is upto 30 days after the purchase of a new Macbook.


    I looked on the serial number date of munafacture site and my Macbook Pro 13 was made in the middle of december 2012 which what was written on the box t came in from China.


    Amazon will not would not offer a $20 refund because the operative said it was not in their power to issue it but said if you want to return it they will accept a return long after the 30 day limit.


    I found out from Apple today that they are reducing the price of the Macbook Retina 13. Upgrading the processor and the reduced price comes with 256 SSD hard drive as the basic model
