Where did RSS go in Safari 6???

Scyanide, you honeslty think trying to recover RSS feed links from a backup is practical? Apple could have at least warned about the deletion. As an Apple user since 1979 I'm finding their increasing lack of user consideration to be disconcerting.

Interesting, my post above was censored and the post from RaceManRocks, my follow up post and the post from Chasm was deleted. That's real classy. I don't recall from the Terms that it's forbidden to mention He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named or his e-mail address. In fact when I seach this forum I find several posts with the e-mail address for He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and suggestions to e-mail him and those posts have apparently not been removed.

I'm guessing this post will also be deleted and I'll probably be banned too but at least everyone who is subscribing to e-mail notifications for this topic will know the truth and what you are trying to hide. You can silence one voice but you cannot silence us all! We will not just sit and take it while this company ruins itself as well as it's users. If we have to call on the power of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named then so be it.

It's reassuring to know that there are personnel employed to scrutinize the forums here in case we are harmed by seeing something inappropriate. Hopefully there are equal numbers of personnel available to re-insert RSS into Safari. As I mentioned in my deleted (without warning or explanation) post, it's rare for Apple to produce a change that reduces functionality without warning or without providing a better solution. The removal of RSS requires a workaround that should be spelled out.

I understand that this is a support forum. Perhaps it's appropriate to allow people to vent and lament the loss.

You know, Apples going around deleting posts - lets hope they are also picking up on our frustration!

I'd say the chances are truly slim that the RSS reader will make a come back to Safari any time soon. We can all hope but as I said in an earlier post I won't be holding my breath.

I say we turn our focus to other browsers. Firefox or Camino,....anything else for that matter! And throw a few bucks their way instead of to the App Store for an RSS reader. I'd rather see my money going towards another browser that builds in a reader than towards Apple who apparently doesn't give a flyin' about us like they used to, well they appeared to care anyway. That feeling died along with Jobs IMHO.

If Mozilla & other 3rd party/Open Source dev's out there have picked up on how angry this move by Apple to remove the rss reader from Safari has made us lets hope they are already burning the midnight oil brainstorming ways to incorporate a rss reader in their browsers next release. It would certainly make their browser an instant hit if they do!

It will be interesting to see how far Safari dips in popularity after this bonehead move.

THAT will speak a lot louder and be heard by Apple more so than any of us which is why I suggested in my earlier post to stop using Safari. Nothing wrong with doing that, to send a message. Dropping the RSS reader has made Safari just another browser so no loss jumping on to Firefox or Chrome or whatever. On a side note, and I could be wrong because I just noticed this - literally this very second but is there also now no "view source"?

Safari 6 is a real POS!

I can just about live with podcasts being removed from iTunes, but RSS being removed from Safari was the final straw. RSS in Safari set it apart from the other browsers, it's now a just slower version of Chrome.

Is there any way someone could create an extension to bring back the full RSS functionality?

Firefox already has an RSS reader built in, you add the feeds as a live book mark

not as good as Safari 5.1's implimentation but better than Safari 6! and better than having a seperate app to read RSS.

Indeed, I have already switched back to Firefox from Safari to get some RSS functionality. However it's still missing the number that tells you how many new articles there are. I asked Mozilla to implement that one or two years ago but it still didn't happen. That's why I moved to Safari instead. Imagine my disappointment when they now removed RSS support from Safari. Well you don't have to imagine it much after reading my posts here.

I also want to give another shout out to my new heroes RaceManRocks who keeps getting censored and Chasm with his exquisite post above 🙂 Our voices shall echo through eternity, long after Safari has faded.

I hadn't realized just how much I was depending on Safari's RSS feature until Apple took it away. Turns out it was THE reason I was using Safari. Now it is as if I have become information crippled by its removal.

The removal of RSS, the super wide TABS, along with the other changes has really downgraded Safari. And to think someone is being paid to work on Safari. I have a feeling that group must really be USER ignorant. How can anyone who has been using Safari make such terrible changes?

Thanks for the heads up - that is good to know about Firefox's rss reader - at least its something. I've been using Safari for so long I didn't know. It is a bit clunky but literally is better than nothing like we have now with Safari.

For that demographic the changes probably make sense. Apple has in the past provided options and let the user decide how they wanted to use their products. Nowdays it's more about telling the user the Apple way. I used to love the simplicity of Apple products, but only partly because of the simplicity. The reality is that I loved that if needed I could get inside them and make them work they way I wanted. iOS is all about making us all teenagers. There are some things in life that need some complexity. Apple please bring back options, we are not all teenagers only interested in twitter and facebook.

You are right. The decision to take out RSS was not accidental or a mistake, it is part of a deliberate policy or change of direction that Apple is taking and that, like many people here, I totally disagree with and think will ultimately ruin the Apple experience. Take the Quicktime Player in Mountain Lion, it was bad enough when they removed the basic editing features, as if we were all morons who couldn't be trusted with editing a movie, but now the new Quicktime Player in Mountain Lion has gone a step further, removing the full screen button from the line of controls - but retaining the Facebook, Twitter button, as if all we do is send videos to each other, as if sending the movie to someone is more important than actually watching it!!! Now if you want to watch a video in full screen you have to click on the top right to go into full screen mode, to get out of it you have to wave your mouse around until the menu appears back again and click it, all at a distance from the acutal controls that govern the playing and stopping of the movie.

I despair of these decisions, not no much because they are so stupid, but because they are being taken deliberately as part of a policy (there is a long list of other dumbing down features to Mountain Lion that Apple conveniently doesn't mention). Hopefully even the adolescent market they are aiming at will ditch them as soon as something shinier comes along, and Apple will get back to looking after its actual users and customers.

Sarafi's elegant RSS implementation is probably the biggest reason I use it as my primary browser. I just wanted to add my voice to the chorus of people who miss this feature. I have submitted feedback to Apple about this as well.

Well if Apple is targeting the 16 year old demographic then they truely do not understand who is buying the gear 16 year olds are using. Because I'm the one shelling out 2 grand for an iMac, I'm the one shelling out the bucks for my teenagers iPad, and I'm the one shelling out the bucks fro her Touch iPod. I'm the one shelling out the bucks for all the aps used on the iMac, the iPad, and the Touch.

I imagine this is the case for everyone who has a child in that demographic. In addition perhaps my 17 year old is an exception to the rule but she doesn't care to use Twiiter or Facebook. I'm actually the 56 year old in the house who uses Facebook extensively to keep in contact with the large volume of dinosaur friends I've made over the years.

Perhaps Apple thinks I'm becoming too senile to be trusted with these features or that my age group has somehow reverted back into some state of luddite incompetence. Regardless of the reasons the RSS feature is effectively gone
