Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.

AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)

But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?

In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.

Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

Never mind. Just realized my iMac is too old. Late 2009.

AirPlay will only work for mid 2011. 😟

I'm in the same situation here with a late 2009 model iMac!

I bought an ATV3 + Mountain Lion just for this purpose, now I feel cheated. Then what is the point to upgrade Mountain Lion ($20) while Airparrot can do the same thing for just $9.99 or a HDMI cable.

I want my money back so I could just get airparrot or a HDMI cable!

SO DISAPPOINTED WITH APPLE!

Crummy.. Apple should be more clear. So you have to ask yourself 2 things: 1) Does ML work with your Mac 2) Do all the features of ML work with your Mac... so Apple are you going to give a discount to the guys that don't give the full $20 worth of the OS? None of this crap that all my processor doesn't have blah blah when my stupid iPhone can stream the video.. and all no this is different it's Airplay Mirroring.. that's crap.. didn't I see you guys doing this with the iPad 2 during your Keynote with gaming and you're telling me Macbook Pro fully loaded can't do this? BS. I don't care if it slows down my Mac give me the feature.. sad we have to resort to Air Parrot.

Well I am glad I now know that my iMac from 2010 will not work. Apple was very misleading and this was the main reason why I upgraded to Mountain Lion. Simply put, I am quite upset over this!

*edit*

I just called Apple and I was told that they put the description of compatible devices in the app store. I suggested that they also put it on the website, and I was extremely unhappy that the website did not say anything about compatible devices.

Dear Apple

As you can see from this chain of communication, we all seem very disappointed and let down by this feature not being available.

Whilst it is not clear as to why there should be an exception for i3 users, i am unhappy that this was not made clear in the marketing campaigns and the ads were misleading.

I upgraded to the new OS only for this feature and would request a refund if this feature is not available !

Please refund the my upgrade fee, i feel let down !

Yup, I just bought 2 new ATV's and just finish installing ML, I was looking at maclife.com and trying to figure out where I went wrong, lets just say I've been had. I wouldv'e upgraded anyway, but the fact this was not on apples page for air play ****** me off. They said you need a new aTV for airplay, ok im fine with that, but now in my house I have a 1st Gen aTV, 3 aTV, and now 2 pointless aTV2 unless i drop more money on a new mac. ugh... im gonna ***** to underserving victims on the phone.

How are any of you surprised by this? This has been standard Apple proceedure for years. Promise a great new product but don't offer it as an upgrade when there is not technical/hardware reason to do so (hello Siri on the original iPhone 4). So while this ***** no one should be surprised that Apple is once again trying to force it's customers into an expensive hardware upgrade for one small feature they've trumpted many times.

People love to bash Microsoft but they almost never pull crap like this. AirParrot essentially proves this is totall and complete Apple BS. Suppose I'll happily go back to working on my Windows 7 machine.

I'd like to add my voice to the list of disgruntled customers disappointed at the lack of support (for my mid-2010 mbp). I only upgraded to Mountain Lion for this feature, and getting to the upgrade via the upgrade web page, simply advised that my model was suitable for the upgrade - no mention that key features would be unavailable.

The omission of support of new features on non-current (but very recent) hardware is starting to feel like a scam.

This is absolutely appalling Apple, the feature compatibility should have been "clearly" and i mean clearly stated before downloading, then again if it was who would upgrade, spending over £1000 on a computer that is only under 2 years old and saying the hardware cant stream video over an wifi network is extreemly difficult to believe!.

carry on like this and you will lose dedicated Mac customers.

p.s I mainly upgraded for this feature, what a waste

God ****.. I even bought a 3,000 dollars TV to get this **** going, along with an AppleTV. This has to be the worst news I've ever got from them (Second is the elimination of spaces in Snow Leopard).

If they continue doing shitt like this.. I'm switching over to Android and develop Apps for them. Would even try windows again.

I need a fukin.. beer ! 😠
