Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.

AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)

But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?

In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.

Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

Never mind. Just realized my iMac is too old. Late 2009.

AirPlay will only work for mid 2011. 😟

Like the rest of you, I have been waiting for this feature from the first moment I heard of it, and am COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED that it will not work on my mid-2010 MacBook Pro. In my opinion, Apple made a HUGE MISTAKE not saying anything about this earlier. They teased us for months about AirPlay mirroring, then pulled the rug out from under us. I decided months ago that I was certain to buy this upgrade because of one killer feature, which, as it turns out, I don't get to have.

My son once said that the difference between Apple and Microsoft is that "every Windows computer I have ever owned ultimately disappointed me, but that is not true with Apple computers". I used to agree with him, but no more.

I will not be installing Mountain Lion on my mid-2010 MacBook Pro. There is no point.

I myself just complained to Apple as well. When I first heard aboutn MT coming out, I didn't think about upgrading because I wouldn't use most of the features. Then I found out about AirPlay Mirriong for iMacs to Apple TV. My Mac is an early 2010 model. Not exactly old. When I talked to some Mac people before, they said I would have no problem upgrading and being able to use the Mirroing. So I feel not only cheated but lied to! This happens too often with Apple, and I for one am not threatening the point of quting Apple, but already have. Going out to buy a different platform for my computer needs today. What this all boils down to is not the product, but the customer service. Which Apple ***** at! Even with some of the best technology in the world, it would be nice to have some sort of human touch withe these products. Goodbye Apple! Good luck to the rest of you with your technical issues too. I feel for you all.

Dear Apple,

I am extremely disappointed with Apple. Really? a 3GS iPhone can support airplay where a state of the art 27" late 2009 iMac and Late 2010 MacPro models can't?

How does this make any logical sense? How about that Engineering or Law or Medicine or Fine Art students who were barely able to afford the machines in the first place and can't afford buying a new one for many years to come and after paying out their student loans? Just thinking how they just spent $20 (lunch and dinner money) for a feature that should work seamlessly and make their presentations, displays, meetings, projects etc a little taxing.

Honestly, what a disappointment. I can't believe how badly Apple has dropped the ball. Enjoy the $20/person that you took out of the poors students who rushed to buy it or the other $2000 for a new device that they might end up borrowing against their student loans.

What a disappointment,
